Hey guys!

For those who own a 2021 Helios 300 model with i7-11800H & RTX 3060, can you please check the voltage at which the RAM runs? Does the RAM run at 1.35V? I believe you can check in the Bios or by running an app called CPU-Z.

Thank you!

They don't im afraid :(, i dont think any of the Acer lappy's suport enabling XMP. I had a quick check of the service guide and it only mentions the 1.2v as being supported as well

The memory controller does support JEDEC 3200MTs ram though ( https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/platforms/details/tiger-lake-h.html ) so if you grab a set of 1.2v 3200MHz ram it should run at that speed :)

So not all Manufacturers disable it, some peeps like XMG leave the options on, and expose more like undervolting, but the disadvantage there is that the RMA rate drastically increases as there is the chance their may be an enexpected error or crash. For example undervolting a 10th gen chip may lower temps a bit, but also has a chance of bricking the board! You also have some desktop "class" machines that use SODIMMS like the thinstation / micro dekstops so it can be useful for them where there can be a tad more cooling

Ive attached the Ram info as well :)

    Hi @KeyserTommasi,

May I know the full model name of your unit.

It should be 1.2v i think 🤔 i think all the acer stuff just followed JEDEC which states it needs to be the lower voltage

    Hello @Easwar

The model name is PH315-54-760S. This is the one:
    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/NH.QC2AA.003

The reason for my question is because I am considering going for the following RAM sticks, but I'm seeing a few reviews claiming that some laptops can only read this RAM at 2666 MHz because these laptops only work with 1.2V RAM voltage, and not the 1.35V required for the 3200 MHz:
    https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/bl2k32g32c16s4b

Note: Don't worry about this being a 64GB module. I realize the official Helios 300 specs say that only a maximum of 32GB is possible, but so did the 2019 & 2020 model specs, and people installed 64GB successfully on those models.

@Leostat I need to be 100% sure, so if you own the laptop I mentioned in my previous post - or another one from the 2021 lineup - could you please check the RAM voltage? Thanks!

Another way of asking this question: Does the aforementioned Helios 300 model allow me to unlock the XMP in BIOS so I can configure the laptop to read the RAM at 3200MHz with 1.35V?

@Leostat I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me, thank you!

Yes, Intel's entire 11th Gen lineup supports DDR4 3200MHz. I was hoping that the Helios 300 supports XMP so I can go for the aforementioned Crucial Ballistix RAM sticks because they seem to be the fastest available (lowest CAS latency [CL]=16), but since the Helios does not support XMP, I believe it will not be able to run them at 3200MHz despite the CPU supporting it. This is my understanding.

I better stick with the regular Crucial set:

    https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k32g4sfd832a

Final question: You referenced Acer's service guide. Would you be able to direct me to it? That would be very helpful.

    Thanks again.

The guides are restricted I'm afraid :( a few of us have access to them to be able to check things for peeps but we aren't allowed to share them in full

when I get home this evening I will pull out the ram info in full for you (unless someone beets me me to it!)

KeyserTommasi u cant unlock xmp in the bios on any manufacturer they are all locked to avoid user damage on other settings if you want the best performance ram get hyperx or vengeance also if you provide the full model number we can check the SG but without it as there are so many variants inside each model we cant find anything so we need the full model number in order to search the database

The Helios 300 model number is PH315-54-760S:
    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/NH.QC2AA.003

With regards to HyperX, I would consider it, but it's currently sold out on Amazon & seemingly everywhere else
    in 64GB at 3200MHz:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084929MWL/

As for Vengeance, I'm afraid it's not available in 64GB at 3200MHz:
    https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/Categories/Products/Memory/c/Cor_Products_Memory?q=:newest&rawFilterQuery=(memoryFormFactor_en_string:SODIMM OR memoryFormFactor_en_string:UDIMM)&pageSize=60

I have seen these, which Amazon says is the newer version of HyperX, but they're far more expensive than anything else:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097QK6M3W/

I'm curious - If all manufacturers disable XMP, then which laptops can use 1.35V RAM at 3200MHz like these:

@Leostat You're a legend. Once again, thank you for your time, and thank you for responding to all my questions. I will go ahead & get the following 1.2V RAM sticks:

    https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k32g4sfd832a

Ideally, I would have loved to go for either of the following ones, but the first has been out of stock for quite some time, and the second is too pricey compared to the aforementioned Crucial ones:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084929MWL/
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097QK6M3W/

Then again, I never play video games on the Helios 300, so I think the regular Crucial ones are adequate.

@Leostat Quick update - While I'm still waiting for Amazon to ship my laptop (yeah, it's taking way too long), I noticed that the price for the following Kingston model has dropped significantly (surprisingly it's now even cheaper than the slower CL22 Crucial model [CT2K32G4SFD832A]):

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097QK6M3W/

    Here is the spec sheet:
    https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KF432S20IBK2_64.pdf

I'm 99% certain about this, but I thought I would run it by you:
PH315-54-760S should be able to natively run the aforementioned Kingston 64GB RAM at 3200MHz (CL20 @ 1.2V) with no issues whatsoever. Am I correct?

By the way, the above is a rebrand of the following out-of-stock HyperX model, as confirmed by Kingston tech support:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084929MWL/

KeyserTommasi regarding laptops ram especially gaming ones i wont get anything but hyperx (now rebranded to fury) or vengeance especially if you want the best performance out of it those are the only 2 brands i can recommend so yeah you wont have any issues running that set on your H300 :)

    @xapim Thank you for responding.

As I mentioned before, Vengeance does not make 64GB at 3200MHz for laptops:
    https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/Categories/Products/Memory/c/Cor_Products_Memory?q=:newest&rawFilterQuery=(memoryFormFactor_en_string:SODIMM OR memoryFormFactor_en_string:UDIMM)&pageSize=60

As for HyperX, yes it has now been rebranded to Fury after being acquired by Kingston, and that was the model I was asking about. Thank you for confirming that it works fine with the Helios 300.

KeyserTommasi hyperx was already from kingston since the beginning they just decided to rebrand the hyperx impact to fury impact to match the desktop fury ram brand as hyperx impact was laptop exclusive :) also do you really need 64gb are you going to really use them in full i have 32gb and its enough for me only using less than 20 most times if you dont do content creation neither rendering works 32gb are way over what u need :)

I dont have my 32gb hyperx because they were 2666 and my cpu its a 7th gen 2400 only so i sold them to a nitro 5 i5 8th gen and got 32gb vengeance 2400 same performance also recently upgraded my aspire 5 10th gen to 16gb 2666 vengeance single sodimm as the 2993 sodimms are out of stock until who knows when and i was not going to wait for it and to get a 3200 its a waste of money as it will downgrade to 2993 anyways so no big loss there  :)

Oh I did not know that Kingston has always owned HyperX. Thank you for clarifying, @xapim.

Yes I actually do need 64GB because I run a bunch of RAM-hungry finance applications on multiple monitors. I have seen them eating up to 25+GB of RAM, so 32GB is too close to that. I don't want to get 32GB then eventually upgrade to 64GB; seems unnecessary & is actually more expensive overall. I don't mind spending the extra $ now to get 64GB. It's fairly cheap anyway compared to where it was a few months ago.

Yeah its is way cheaper now my 32gb hyperx 2666 costed £400 in 2018 and another £400 for the 2tb wdblue ssd for a laptop that costed £1100 spent almost the full price in 2 upgrades plus the external 2.5" 5tb hdd i have in a 10gbps usb-c/3.0 enclosure this was all done the 2nd week i got it repasted upgraded undervolted optimized still the same performance and temps today and always on 24/7 since then non stop xd

@xapim Exactly. A few months ago, 64GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM (HyperX or Fury) would have cost me close to $450, now it's $287. A 4TB WD Blue SATA III 2.5" SSD would have cost me $450 to $500+, now it's $340 to $380. I can't complain.

Next year once PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs are common, watch the prices of PCIe 4.0 SSDs drop. It would be a good time to upgrade then.
