Hey everyone! Reaching out here as I have not been able to find any solid guidelines or reference for upgrading this laptop. I've tried adding a HDD into this unit, when the hdd is connected, the laptop will not post bios or boot, keyboard lights up, hangs on black screen. But with the hdd disconnected, it posts and boots normally from the ssd. Installed the latest bios update aswell. Tried a multitude of different hdd sizes. Same issue with every drive I tried, ranging from 500gb up to 2tb. After defeat, I said no big deal, I'll order another m.2 to pop in, yet I cannot find what sizes of storage this unit supports.

Hoping someone may have a solution or better information.

Your AN515-57 has 1x 2.5″ drive at SATA-3 6GB/sec bay and comes with either a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 or a 1 TB SSD (WDC PC SN530) M.2 PCIe NVMe drive into one of its 2x M.2 slots, these specs are fitted by Acer OEM and work. I don't know what 2.5" SSD you have fitted and/or attempted to fit but it should work with the SATA adaptor supplied by Acer with this laptop. If you laptop is under warranty contact Acer and tell them the same as this laptop is under warranty as there might be something wrong so let them sort it out. Btw, adding a 2.5" drive to any laptop is not a major drama as it should work 100% every time.
