G9-593 end of life?

I have an Acer Predator G9-593 running Windows 10 Home that is stuck during bootup, after a clean reinstall from a thumb drive. This all started a few months ago with a system update that gave the usual "Do not turn off your machine" message, and then sat there for two days.

I got into advanced options on reboot, but it didn't recognize my password or PIN, even after resetting it on the MS website, so I had to nuke it. I managed to reinstall windows via the thumb drive, but it crashed again when it got to the privacy options!

Took it into Geek Squad and they've had it over the weekend. They say all the hardware tests passed ok, but it keeps crashing/rebooting on them, too, when they try to install Windows. They're telling me they think the computer has reached the end of it's life and I should buy a new one, as this one will keep getting bricked every time there's a new Windows update.

This seems completely outrageous to me. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you.

That sounds pretty sus to me, There is no such thing as a end of life on the hardware! At a bit of a guess it could be a damaged drive, are you able to get into windows at all, or if not, would you be ok to boot into something like ubuntu?

If i had to bet, i think your drive may be failing which would cause that sort of random issue and it just crashing with persistance after a reboot and re install

This is the SG's "Power On Issues"  If the system does not power on, perform the following, one at a time, to correct the problem. Do not replace a non-defective FRU:

If all the above doesn't work then contact Acer in your area and get their expert advice as Acer's technicians are the best people to fix your problem, the worst that could be wrong is that you will need to replace your OEM motherboard, these are all the OEM motherboards fitted to your Predator G9-593 also and btw, the Predator G9-593 is not a Win-11 compatible laptop so and for the future you might consider this before spending allot of money repairing your Predator G9-593. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I should have been more specific about the nature of the problem. After appearing to boot normally, it’s stuck on a blue screen that says "Just a moment" while Cortana is giving me voice commands for setup - things I can’t see, with no way out. I was able to reinstall windows once, but it doesn't recognize the thumb drive anymore, and no combination of keypresses will drop me into the advanced options.

It's in the hands of Best Buy's Geek Squad here in NYC at the moment. As noted, they're trying to tell me the machine is too old to run Windows anymore. So yeah, I'm not impressed, but it's kind of the only option I have at the moment. I've had suggestions that it could be bad RAM or the keyboard driver (haven't tried a 2nd keyboard). I told them to put in a new 2TB SSD C: drive and try again. More tomorrow, I imagine. Thanks again.

They put in a new hard drive and tried to install windows three times, but it keeps crashing on updates. I told them to try new RAM.

Hmmm, a tad odd 🤔, i dont think it would be the keyboard as thats the basic of basic I/O , it could be a bad stick of ram, does it bluescreen or just freeze?

OK, I am hosed. Can’t get past the sign in screen. Is there an authorized acer repair place in New York City, or am I better off just sending it back to the mothership? Thanks, everyone.

im not 100% sure how it works in the US, in the UK you use the self service RMA request ( https://customerselfcare.acer.com/CS2/#/ ) it takes some details and then asks you to mail it somewhere, but then the UK is much smaller then the US!

Does it just freeze at sign in?

Frank_Coleman contact acer support they will guide you to the nearest repair center but most probably  be prepared to pay a lot as after the warranty is over the price its ++++++ if they accept to fix it as they might refuse i would probably try a good repair shop first and get it diagnosed when i mean good its good not just a bunch of ***** because those are everywhere they just take your money and fix nothing  :)

BTW, when you go to the Acer support page and click any of the three options to start a repair, they're all dead links!
