The package size of the Intel AC 7265 currently installed is

22mm x 30mm x 2.4mm,
12mm x 16mm x 1.8mm

Would I be able to upgrade to Intel AX200 which is
22mm x 30mm x 2.4mm,
12mm x 16mm x 1.65mm

Or the AC 9260 which is
22mm x 30mm x 2.4mm,
12mm x 16mm x 1.57mm

I appreciate any knowledge pertaining to the above. The more detailed the better !

Your system is wifi6-compatible. Accordingly all m.2 2230 wifi6 cards should work with a wifi6 router. Of the two models you asked about, many claim the newer AX200 is faster. What other details do you need to have?

Heya. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

I do not currently have a WIFI 6 Router yet.

My objective, is too perhaps gain a bit of range for far away access points (100 feet or so) and generally future proof for when I do get a WIFI6 router.

Thoughts ? Opinion?  Is there a better method for gaining range?

    Thanks!

The range is mainly dependent on antenna polarization & channel/frequency setting & obstacles (eg walls, plumbing, mains wires, etc) between the laptop and the router. The card itself is usually only a minor influence despite anecdotal comments otherwise you might find on the internet. :)

I am attempting to get a better signal in a open air environment, there is no interference besides the building I am connecting too.

Would I be better off perhaps purchasing a "high gain" USB 3.0 dongle with a antenna?

The current wifi card I have now is a Intel AC 7265.  Everything is configured for maximum performance.

I guess ultimately, I want to get a better wifi signal from 100 feet away from my building.

    What is the best solution?

    Thank you!

The laptop's two antenna are in the lid. Either changing lid position relative to router's two antenna -- or changing router's antenna relative to lid antenna --- or changing both will influence relative polarization more than a dongle. While the dongle's two antenna gives you another degree of freedom to fuss with over the laptop's two relative fixed-position antenna. It's doubtful the very marginal expected gain will be worth the bulkiness.

Do you think it would be worth it to upgrade the internal antennas to something like this

    2 x 8dBi 2.4GHz 5.8GHz Dual Band WiFi Antenna IPEX MHF4 Internal Antenna with 50cm Cable for M.2 7265 8265 9260 9560 AX200 Wireless WLAN Card

Thank you so much for answering all my ridiculous questions.

No. It would be more practical and much simpler just to get a router repeater range extender.

    Noted.

My situation is one where I have to wait in my car for a little while, so while those solutions make perfect sense.. I can only connect to the access point from my laptop in my vehicle.

Any solutions to attempt to get a better signal?

    Thanks again !

Get the laptop out of the vehicle.
