Does it sound like my motherboard is fried?

I have an asus aspire VX and I was using it like normal, it randomly shut off, not over heated or anything, and won't come back on. I replaced the battery and power cable as well as opened the back and dusted it. When I plug it in it won't even light up to indicate it is charging. Does anyone have any idea what this could be just from the sounds of it?

It's probably OK. Have you opened the case recently for any reason? Because there is a safety interlock switch located near the RAM socket that will cut all power to the mainboard if the bottom cover is not firmly attached or misaligned with the top cover. First try to snug up the 14 screws on the bottom so that the cover presses harder against this switch to keep it in the on position.

I haven't, I recently just took it apart to swap the battery. However this was after the laptop had turned off and won't turn back on.

Doesn't matter. First try snugging up all 14 screws before taking anything apart again. Not too tight with a big-handle driver but reasonably tight with a jeweler's slim-handle driver.
