Hi,

I am struggling to find an answer if this laptop is able to accommodate ssd drive as it currently has only 64GB of eMMC storage. Also it says DDR4 memory is upgradable- is there another slot or I would have to buy 8GB in one piece and replace current 4GB ?

Thanks in advance

Adrian

Yes, you should be able to install up to two 8GB DDR4 sodimm 2666MHz laptop modules for a maximum of 16GB RAM.  Some but not all mainboards in the A114-33 series also have a 2.5" HDD or SSD connector or an m.2 SSD card connector to add up to a 2 TB storage drive. It would be advisable to remove the 11 screws securing the bottom cover and lift battery out to  examine your mainboard connectors before ordering any upgrades.

    Hi,

Thank you that’s a very comprehensive reply. Is the current 4GB only one module so the other slot is free? Also does opening the laptop void the warranty if I wanted to check the ssd situation.

    Thanks

Yes, you should be able to add a single 4 or 8GB module to the other socket for a total 8 or 12GB. The speed should be at least as fast as the 4GB module that's already in there, probably 2400MHz or 2666MHz. If you want to experiment, you could try a 16GB sodimm  as some BIOS can recognize more than the advertised max but not guaranteed. If it were mine, I'd also run crucial's upgrade scanner on the laptop before ordering anything.

As long as you don't break any obvious tamper seal tape over any screws or between case parts, it should not void the warranty. Just make sure the charger is unplugged and immediately disconnect battery from mainboard connector before messing around inside. Antistat wrist strap is also recommended.
