I lost the sound on my Acer Aspire 6930

My operating system is Windows 7.  Upon starting, the speaker icon has a red X through it and says No Audio Devices are installed.  I've tried updating, unistalling and reinstalling drivers but nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions?

Open Device Manager. Do you see any red or yellow warnings?

No red.  But yellow warning through Realtek Audio driver.  Kindly note that there is also a System Device listed as HD audio controller which has no warnings.

Right click on the RealtekAudio driver and uninstall it. Then exit Device Manager without reinstalling anything. Then shut down Win7 normally. Turn the machine back on and let Win7 automatically re-detect the Realtek hardware and automatically re-install fresh copies of its hardware driver.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jack, but that didn't work.  Now the Device Manager shows no Sound Devices at all AND the HD audio controller no longer appears as a system device.  Any other thoughts?

Also, when I try to add the Realtek driver with the Add Hardware Wizard, it tells me that the driver was installed but may not work correctly.   This device cannot start (code 10).

    >>>Now the Device Manager shows no Sound Devices at all AND the HD audio controller>>>

This only means Windows does not detect that the Realtek audio hardware is installed.

This only means Windows detects that the Realtek audio software is already installed. But may not work because Realtek audio hardware isn't detected.

Unfortunately, the Realtek audio hardware for this model is in the form of a chip soldered to the mainboard and not replaceable. It might simply be a loose solder pin connection which might or might not be fixable with a solder reflow using a heat gun directed at the chip's pin connectors. The entire board must be removed and stripped of heat sensitive components to do this. However, new mainboard's for this particular model are available from concessionaires like Aliexpress for less than $50usd. Delivery times are usually 3-4 weeks depending on your location.
