Hi All,

Just purchased a Model Number: A515-45-R386 - Acer Aspire 5 15.6" Laptop - Silver (AMD Ryzen 5 5500U/512GB SSD/8GB RAM/Windows 10)

I would like to max out the ram at 32gb (if possible). so 2x 16gb... or would it make more sense to do 16gb total at 2x 8gb?

I am looking at some options on Amazon.ca (I am in Canada):

Silicon Power 16GB DDR4 2666MHz 260-pin CL19 1.2V SODIMM Laptop Memory (if I wanted to do 2x 16gb for total of 32gb)
Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) SR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory (if I wanted to do 2x 8gb for total of 16gb)

Would appreciate recommendations please.

#1) Can the laptop handle 32gb maximum, 2x 16gb?  If yes, is it worth to do this upgrade or 16gb total is good enough?
#2) Please specify exact RAM required for this laptop including all details.

Thank you!

I think (*this could be totally wrong)  some models are meant to have 8 GB soldered , but i have seen in the past they tend to have 8GB as a stick or 4 stick +4 soldered (like you currently have)  for some reason! If i had to specualte, probs the chip shortage causing the production line to adapt.

As you only have 4 soldered, to correct myself if you used a 16GB Dimm you would have 4 GB dual channel and the rest single.

You may be able to use a 32GB Dimm as well, but I really wouldnt recomend it as how much they cost

It would support 32gb but most of the time, it can be a bit overkill depending on your use case :) , I think your laptop only has 1 slot available for ram as it's a hybrid soldered / slot set up so would only need a single stick

Having a look around I think the max memory speed is 3200mhz , but there may or may not be a spare slot on the bottom of the laptop as some models come with soldered ram, others with a stick . Easiest way to check is to pop the bottom off and have a nosey

If you went with a 16gb dimm, 8gb would run in single channel mode , and 16 GB would run in dual channel, but I think the memory speed would downclock to the cl and speed of the soldered ram (if yours has that)

Thank you! I will have to pop off the back and check in that case.

Which leads me to my next question....

Will I VOID Acer warranty if I remove the back, AND/OR if I add/upgrade RAM?

The only time you void the warranty by popping the back is if there is a warranty void sticker :)

Thanks for your responses, very helpful.

I do wonder if anyone knows the RAM specifications and capabilities of this laptop for sure though... especially in regards to the soldered ram, or do I absolutely need to pull the back panel off to be sure.

Crucial scan says I have 4gb ram soldered, and 4gb additional ram stick, and that I have 20gb total ram possibility.

So the max I can do is... 4gb soldered ram, and 16gb ram added.. for total of 20gb.

I'm confused because the acer website says this PC has 24gb max RAM space...... so is the Acer website wrong or is the Crucial scan wrong???

After further review, it really does seem like this has 4gb soldered RAM, with 1 slot to add 16gb RAM max, for total of 20gb RAM....

    Hi GoHabsGo87,

You can upgrade your Acer Aspire 5 A515-45 Laptop to up to a maximum memory capacity of 20GB Memory.
