Is it possible to upgrade from HDR to SSD for my Accer 111 -31 laptop.

I purchased my Accer Spin 111 -31 in 2018. I has 4 GB RAM and 500 GB HDR. During multitasking, I face slowness. Therefore, I am thinking to upgrade from HDR to SSD. Can anyone help on this? Just wanted to know (1) Whether this model support SSD ? (2) How to install it on it? (3) Where is the HDR located on my laptop?

Yes, if your model is one of those with the 500GB HDD then an upgrade to a SSD instead will be a big jump in performance. You can use any of the 2.5" SATA SSDs, though I usually suggest picking a brand name over the generics just because their track record is better for longevity and stability. I suggest also picking up a USB external case to use to initially clone the HDD to the SSD and to eventually use the old HDD as a backup or data drive. You have one USB 3.0 port, so if you get a USB 3.0 case you'll maximize the speed for the external drive.
Start by putting the SSD (and you can go larger than 500GB if you wish) in the external case. Then connect it to the laptop and clone the internal drive to the new SSD. I used Macrium Reflect the last time I did this, but there are several other free packages that work well. Once the cloning is finished use Disk Management to verify the partition structure is the same between the two drives. The only partition that has changed in size should be the system partition (C:). Shut down, remove the bottom cover, swap drives, then reassemble. Turn it on and it should boot from the SSD! Verify everything seems to work fine, then put the old drive in the case, connect it to the system and use Disk Management to wipe all the partition off it (double check to make sure you are doing the HDD not the SSD!) and then create a big partition that uses the whole HDD. You then should be done and ready for everything. :)

Not really. Even if it is possible to replace the HDD with an SSD, that cannot really be considered an upgrade when SSDs overheat and corrupt on power loss. HDDs are usually very slow when writing excess memory to disk, and SSDs are often faster for that, but with SSD, if it does freeze up and you need to turn it off improperly, it is far more dangerous than with an HDD. SSDs corrupt when the power is removed during write operations, and swapping is a write operation that may cause it to freeze up. HDDs have circuits to use the spindle momentum to retract the actuator arm during power loss, and do not hold entire blocks in volatile cache unless write caching is enabled (which is not necessary, unlike with SSDs). With HDD, you only ever need to worry about unsaved work that is open, whereas with SSD, you need to worry about everything stored on the drive. The best option would be to replace the old HDD with a new 7200 RPM HDD, such as the HTS725050A7E630 that spins faster and has a larger cache.

This is the upgrades that I would recommend and how these drives should be upgraded:

    1. YES you can upgrade the OEM 2.5” spinner HDD to a new 2.5” SSD type drive, my suggestion is to use a 2.5 inch Samsung EVO drive as they are the best, I’ve used an EVO 850 for over 3 years every day and its not showing any sign of wear and performance loss.

    2. To install the 2.5 inch SSD is very easy just plug and play but, you have to take the “Back Cover” off and unscrew the following screws:

    3. The 2.5 inch HDD drive is situated underneath and top left corner of laptop:

    4. You can also upgrade the standard 4GB memory to a 1x stick of 8GB DDR3L-1600 MHz into its 1x slot.

Be sure to clone the HDD to the SSD before swapping them. I'd do that with an USB 3.0 external case because you can then use the old HDD as an external backup drive after you are up and running on the new SSD.
