Acer Predator Helios 300 PH317-51: some games cause battery lights to flash?

Hi there,

Recently (a few weeks perhaps?), whenever I run games, I have been having power issues. Specifically, the battery lights flash despite the AC/power cable being plugged in - meaning no charge is being charged while in-game (essentially meaning I have less than half an hour of game time).

Originally I assumed it might be an issue with a game - I first found the issue while playing Black Desert. However, I've tried playing with other games, and many have this same issue now. Oddly, some other games (including similar high intensity/graphics games) do not have this issue.

It shouldn't be a hardware issue either - I've updated my drivers and BIOS, did that uninstall battery driver and reboot thing suggested in some posts, etcetera; and my laptop is an Acer Predator Helios 300 PH317-51, which is capable of running high-intensity visuals (in the past, such as Black Desert) with ease prior to this bug. Also, I am able to play some games (such as Battlefield 4) without this battery-blinking problem.

I hope I can get this solved soon - many thanks in advance.

I had same issue, its happen when power plug overheated, I connect it for other angle and when I change the angle, all was fine
Yes, this is the same conclusion I came to - I looked at everything else, e.g.: installing BIOS etc, but nothing worked until I pushed the plug into a weird angle. I worked for a little while until it completely broke; now I've bought a new charger, and it's back to normal. As such, I recommend anyone with the same issue checks their charger first!

Which BIOS version are you running on your PH317-51? Is it the last Version: 1.19? And have you done the VBIOS flash Version:1.13 for your GPU as not flashing the GPU can contribute to this problem and that is why your laptop is overheating when you are playing these games and the battery light is flashing? Also, are the laptop temps near or on the limit of the high range of its CPU/GPU? Also, does that light stop flashing when not playing games and your laptop is used normally and not gaming?

As all these things could contribute and could be the reason for this problem. As and if the GPU is overworked and the laptop overheats and your adaptor and battery is starved of power there is an internal power switch that could be either shorting at high power demands and heat and/or its on its way out, check all those things and if this problem persists have it diagnosed by Acer or an experienced technician that can fix thisproblem for you.

@alexei129 glad you have solved your issue and it was the adapter but its normal in most cases when performing high demanding tasks for the battery to kick in when the adapter cannot provide enough power to the cpu/dgpu its the battery main purpose also keep checking your battery wear with hwinfo or battery bar pro if it reaches 25% consider replacing it as some cells are damaged they wont hold the designed capacity anymore :)
