Swift 314-41 not recognising second SSD, any ideas?

Hi,
I have a Swift 314-41 with 256GB of M2 SSD storage on HDD0, to which I wanted to add a Kingston A400 2.5" 1.92TB SSD in the HDD1 slot.
I installed the SSD in the bay and connected it using a ribbon cable to the HDD1 connector on the motherboard. The new drive was not visible in the BIOS, Device manager or Disk management.
I had another SATA cable so tried that, just in case the first one was faulty, but still nothing.
I checked the BIOS, both HDD0 and HDD1 are enabled.
I then removed the SSD from the laptop and plugged it into a USB2 socket on the laptop using a SATA/USB connector. The laptop recognised the drive and I was able to format it and give it a drive letter.
I installed it back in the laptop and still nothing.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
I'm running Windows 10 Home.
Thanks!

Did the SATA cable come with your laptop or did you buy one from a third party? The Acer cable is part number: 50.GXKN1.005, was that what you purchased if you did have to purchase one?

No, it's not the acer article. I had two generic SATA cables in my drawer (unused), both of which I tried, neither of which worked.

Try searching for the Acer cable using that part number. They don't have standards for the MB => HDD SATA cables on these laptops, so it could really eaily be a different pinout than your generics.

Thanks billsey, I sourced an Acer original cable, and now the drive is installed, recognised and working!  :)

Sweet! Now we know for sure that at least some of the generic cables don't work.
