Have a few months old Aspire 5 laptop. Worked fine until I swiped keyboard and somehow must have activated F6 blackcreen and can't get screen back. When booting up the Acer logo appears but then screen foes black. Attaching an aux screen works fine, the laptop just doesn't see the screen anymore. When booting up I can call up BIOS and see it on laptop screen but as soon as I get out again the screen is black and only aux screen is recognised. Any suggestions ?

Try pressing FN+F6 to turn the screen back on. Or FN+F5.

Turn machine off. Remove charger. Insert paper clip into reset pinhole on bottom for about 30 seconds. Plug charger back in. Wait for battery charge LED to turn from steady orange to steady blue. Turn machine back on and immediately start tapping F2 key to re-enter BIOS menu. Press F9 to set default. Press F10 to save settings and exit.

Battery is inside the casing, ie not easily removable. Will try to drain it to the max and then inset paperclip in pinhole and subsequent steps. Tried as is i.e. without drained battery but that didn't work.

You don't have to remove the battery. The paperclip reset disconnects the battery from the mainboard. Press and hold the paperclip in the pinhole  for about 30 seconds. Then plug charger back in. Wait for battery charge LED light to turn from steady orange to steady blue. Turn machine back on and immediately start tapping F2 key to re-enter BIOS menu. Press F9 to set default. Press F10 to save settings and exit. Then see if screen will stay on after exiting the BIOS menu.

    Hi Rene65,

    # Try to get the BIOS page.
    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold the F2 key and turn on the unit.
    3. You will be in setup utility page.
    4. Once you got the screen release the F2 key.
    5. Tap on F9 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    6. Tap on F10 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    7. Your unit will restart by itself.

Check this T/S and post the result.

What is your full A5 model number? For example, A515-43?

    Hi Rene65,

Are you getting any light indication when charger is connected. Is the unit battery charged enough to run the system.

There is a BIOS firmware update v1.12 that addresses the black screen issue at this link.

Hi @JackE I still don't get blue light from the LED indicator. Any other way?
