I have had a helios 300 for some time now, I decided to buy an external monitor (XFA240). I am sure that my hdmi out works. My cable set up is as following HDMI - DP cable Hdmi side plugged into laptop DP side plugged into monitor DP When I select DP on the monitor I get no signal and windows 10 doesnt detect it. I am sure that my HDMI port on my laptop works because I tried an hdmi hdmi cable and it worked with the monitor. However, the quality is terrible and I won't use it. What do I do? Cable: Amazon Basics Uni-Directional DisplayPort to HDMI Display Cable 4K@30Hz - 6 Feet Laptop: PH315-51-78NP Monitor: XFA240 Notable: Mouse and keyboard get power.

The cables the wrong direction I'm afraid :( :

Cable: Amazon Basics Uni-Directional DisplayPort to HDMI Display Cable 4K@30H:

Between dp and hdmi you need to have a conversion chip, so to keep proces down you have uni (1) direction cables, the one you suggested will only ever work going from DP source  to HDMI input

Yes, you can't use a DP to HDMI cable to do HDMI to DP, or visa versa. Get the right cable, it will be somewhat more expensive due to the needed extra circuitry to handle the conversion.
