Nitro AN515-45 screen won't boot up (keyboard light is on) after installing new RAM

I purchased and installed an additional RAM (HyperX Impact 8GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM) that is compatible to this laptop. It was working fine on that day until the next day, while I was booting up the laptop, a blue screen stop code error appeared (0x0000007E - "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED"). I did some diagnosis and found out it was due to an issue pertaining to wdiwifi.sys. It booted up alright but awhile later the laptop automatically restarted but only the keyboard light was on while the screen did not turn on.

I tried to swap the RAM as well as test the RAM individually. It was found that after inserting ONLY the new RAM that I bought it managed to boot up the laptop normally. But when paired with the stock RAM or testing ONLY the stock RAM, the laptop did not boot up (only the keyboard light was on).

I only had this laptop for less than a month. Please advise and help. Thank you so much.

    Hi c1re,

    # Try to get the BIOS page.
    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold the F2 key and turn on the unit.
    3. You will be in setup utility page.
    4. Once you got the screen release the F2 key.
    5. Tap on F9 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    6. Tap on F10 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    7. Your unit will restart by itself.

Check this T/S and post the result.

The “0x0000007E - "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED” indicates that there is something wrong with your hard drive or that your computer system has errors to access your data which could relate to your new RAM.

Also and where your problem could be is that with AMD processors running a 1:1 ratio with MCLK and FCLK is best for Ryzen. Only use higher RAM Mhz speeds when your infinity fabric can keep up with it so that is where your problem could be. Read up on "Infinity Fabric" or "Overclocking Guide DDR4 memoryand on “Memory_FAQ.pdf” guide to best understand how memory works.

Also, the suggested RAM for your AN515-45 is the DDR4-3200MHz (see specs caption below) so keep to those specs as overclocked and XMP type RAM like the "HyperX Impact 8GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM" is not recommended for Acer laptops. Yes I know that the HyperX works but it could have done damage to your standard RAM in combination and that is why it’s not recommended. Memory is a very delicate thing that and if users tamper with and don’t abide by the recommendations of what Acer suggests then it causes problems like you are having.
