I’ve had my laptop for about 3.5 years. All good except I noticed the fans were getting quite loud recently and a bit of overheating; makes sense, my room gets quite dusty and I’ve never cleaned my fans the entirety I’ve had the laptop.

I figure I’d take it apart, dust it off, give it a repaste, and replace the thermal pads while I’m at it since I notice some of the pads broke off when I detached the fan/heatsink. After repasting however, my laptop doesn’t turn on. No lights or nothing, even when plugged in. Any suggestions?

    Hi Bltoo1918,

Is your unit battery charged enough to run it.

I believe it was fully charged prior to opening up my laptop/repasting. I’ve never had issues with the battery.
  • what is the exact model? Example AN515-51-75KZ. Did you disconnect the battery and wear an anti-static wristband before performing the procedure? Have you checked that the heat sink is properly aligned?

    Hi Bltoo1918,

Connect a different charger and try to turn it ON.

All you can do is check all your connections, the battery plug and recheck everything you touched. Those things were made for Koreans to work on them :)

G3-571-77qk. I wore an antistatic and removed the external and ram and readjusted both. I didn’t remove the battery; I’ve never had problems with it and rarely use it without the power charger. The heatsink is attached with the fans and all the screws line up.

I have a usb bank that lights up when connected after reassembly, both with and without the power    charger, but the laptop itself doesn’t turn on when I press the power button. I can hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds, and it resets and the lights from the usb bank goes off.

Yes. There’s a bumper on that certain lid that covers the ram that’s supposed to keep that pushed down right? Unless somehow removing that lid shortens the bumper, then I don’t know how it’s not being pushed down; I even added a few layers of electrical tape on the bumper to extend it.

I followed this video pretty much verbatim
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph2ibK79zd8
With the exception of removing the battery at the start. I don’t think it’s a battery problem, but I suspect it may be a power issue. There are no lights when the charger cord is plugged (multimeter reads fine on charger cord), but I have a usb bank attached that does light up showing that it’s drawing power somewhere, even after removing the battery and holding the power button down to dissipate electricity. The laptop just doesn’t boot; no lights anywhere else and I don’t hear fans spin. Keep in mind it was running the same day up until the 10 minutes or so that I opened it up. Highly doubt ESD damage is the cause bc I wore an anti static and was working barefoot on hardwood.

I’m pretty sure the heatsink is firmly and evenly seated; everything lines up, screws are snug. I don’t really know outside of perhaps it’s bc I used 1.5mm thickness pads all around (like in the video)? I read on a few other threads that a combination of 1.0mm and 1.5mm are used and maybe that extra .5mm is causing it to not be squarely seated. Or maybe I somehow damaged the fans while cleaning them? Assuming everything else is fine it should still boot even if the fans don’t spin right? Anyways I’m just getting into hypotheticals now so if anyone else has suggestions I’m al ears.
