Aspire 5251 laptop,-Shows no DVD drive

I have a Aspire 5251 laptop. Issue is that it shows NO DVD drive. You goto "My computer" And the only item it lists is the actual hard drive.  If one puts a DVD in to play--it does nothing (no auto play and and again shows no DVD in the "my computer" area

 

1) What I have attempted:  on start up pressed F2 and set everythting to factory defaults--did not do anything

 

2) Updated the BIOS from V1.02 to the latest V2.14

 

I belive the DVD is a HL-Dt-ST-DVDRAM GT30N ATA--but unable to find the driver online or on the ACER site

 

So how can I get this laptops DVD player to work properly?  It is not my laptop but somewhat of a friends who knows very little aboput laptops and this laptop cost her nearly a months wage (we are in Central America)  Any help would be super, Thank you, Scott

Went with option 2 and went by step by step!  I didnt understand at first when they talked about  removing the upperfiltrs and lowerfilters----one just simply deletes those two on the screen!!  restarted and it worked!!  Icon showed back up inthe MY COMPUTER section and the autoplay works!!  Sweet!!  Thanks
