How to have windows reopen apps where you left off after restart/shutdown etc. - Acer Spin 5

I already have the option 'Automatically save my restartable apps when I sign out and restart them after I sign in' switched on but it doesn't work. Excel does sometimes. Settings and Spotify did but not where I left off (just reopened the app on home page). Chrome didn't reopen fully. And a design programme I have called Affinity didn't reopen at all.

Try to use the sleep or hibernate option to bring the applications back ..

I am referring to situations where this is not possible, for example when one has to do one of the many updates and you have to restart the computer. Or if I have it playing something in the background and don't notice it is running low on battery and so shuts down.

It's up to the app developer to support it, Microsoft just describes to them how to do it but doesn't force it's implementation. Best to use Hibernate for normal shuts downs and manually make sure everything is closed before a OS restart.
