Hi all,

I remember being able to talk to acer with chat support despite being out of warranty, I tried checking in today and I can no longer chat.
Another option is "fee-based chat support" will I really get charged just to talk to someone?
I am just looking for acer's tech support to see if I can get my hard drive which has only been used for a year and a half and is beginning to fail which should be under warranty for 2-3 years since it is made by Toshiba. This is their warranty information: https://toshiba.semicon-storage.com/content/dam/toshiba-ss/ncsa/en_us/docs/services-support-documents/HDD_TAEC_US_Canada_Limited_Warranty.pdf

I bought the acer Nitro 5 AN515-53 with this exact HDD: MQ04ABF100 Toshiba 1TB/1000GB 5400rpm Sata 7mm 2.5" Hard Drive 128mb, 6 Gbit/s.: Amazon.ca: Electronics

Does anyone know how I can get free support to talk about how I can get my HDD which should be under warranty repaired?

You should be able to open a self service request on the Acer website for your region , but 'starting to' may not be covered . When you say that what do you mean?

Depending on the region you may also be able to use live chat, or drop them a message over Twitter :)

I mean my hard drive is getting BSOD with 0% restart with no crash dump, followed by "no bootable device" even after doing chkdsk c:/r and clean installing windows twice, which is definitely a faulty hard drive since I scanned the health of every other component I have on my laptop.

I think I was looking for live chat, but it denies me if I'm out of warranty despite being able to use it before when I was out of warranty. Could you link me to live chat?

Sorry mate, the warranty is valid for a laptop as a whole, so you will be not able to get free HDD at least not from Acer but I doubt you will get one from Toshiba as well as those are OEM drives for Toshiba partners... you can remove thhe HDD and try thou.

Ah sorry i had missed the comapring the laptop warranty to the drives, as batmalin says it would be of the the entire laptop not the parts. Its worth checking the smart of the drive using something liek crystal disk info does it suggest what part of the drive is failing? And if anything is flagged as pre-failure just replacing it yourself :(

The uk live chat is at : http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/ but im not sure if there are regional varients of this.

They will send you a quote (if they respond), so do not expect much.

It's been 5 days since I sent the request, they haven't responded. Although it's unlikely they will help me is there any other way to get support? The UK live chat is not available at the moment.

Nope, without warranty you have to buy a new HDD and replace it yourself or pay someone to replace it.
