SSD bios issue on ZC-700

After upgrading to an SSD on booting the PC goes to blue recovery screen.

Steps taken - bought compatible device from Crucial

- Cloned like-for-like disc using 'Acronis for Crucial'

- replaced existing disk with SSD

- F9 and F10 BIOS defaults, which puts all settings in UEFI mode (non legacy)

- diabled secure boot in BIOS

Still does not work.

This is the 11th PC/laptop I have upgraded in the last 12 month and the first which has so far defeated me.

The only thing I can think left to try is to upgrade the BIOS version from R01.B0 to R01.B3 but cannot do that yet.

Would appreciate if anyone can give any other pointers or indicate if the BIOS upgrade will sort the problem?

Hi,
I don't think you need to update BIOS, check the cables for any loose connections, it's an outside chance but no harm in checking, I also suspect the cloning was not complete, give Macrium reflect free a try with dragging partitions method cloning.

Check in the settings is your unit is under S mode or not.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. To answer those - the PC is not in 'S' mode; I tried two different SSDs to eliminate a problem there and the Acronis clone software has been used sucessfully over 10 times before, and the connections all appear fine.

In case this might help others, what i did was to put the original disc back in, create a USB recovery disc, re-install the cloned non-working SSD and booted from the recovery disk.

Running the 'startup repair' under 'advanced options' it said that it could not repair the drive. However I then did F9 and F10 on the bios and rebooted and it all worked!

Great, but also unsatisfactory in that I do not know if there was a problem with the clone process, a problem with the connection (although it is all working ok now) or .......

Likely the hard disk boot priority setting in the boot menu of the BIOS was set to the old HDD. When you did the F9 reset it set it to the first drive in the queue, which is now the SSD. The BIOS on your ZC-700 was a fairly early UEFI BIOS, so did some odd things...
