Weird PSU sound after Shutdown and DriverInstallFail Orion 3000-620

Hello i recently bought a Orion 3000-620

After a week i encounter a weird clickling noise from the psu after the pc is powered down only (oh and i have to use the pc first, so the sound doesnt come if i just connect the psu cable i have to activly use the pc and shut it down for this sound to happen). Because of this i disconnect the PC with a powerswitch at the power socket after use. Is the psu diying although the pc is new ? is it safe to disconnect the pc completly after use ? oh and my second concern is that i reinstalled w10 and installed all the drivers for my model but there a first some duplicates for example a audio driver and a audio driver for alc 897 . i only installed the non alc drivers because i dont know which on is the correct ones. oh and i also coundnt install the intel dynamic tuning tech driver because my system doesnt meet the requirments for it (says the installation prompt) although acer support list this as a driver for my system. i used the acer identify tool to search for the correct serial and drivers.

Does the same problem occur when connecting the computer to another electrical outlet? Have you checked your electrical outlet for grounding problems? Have you checked if there is any problem related to COIL WHINE?

i already tried switching to other wall sockets with only a extension cable between . same result. and for me it doesnt hear like coil whine i am used to that sometimes happens on gpus. like i said after powerd down the psu makes fast click click noises in a regular fast interval until i use a powerswitch or disconnect the pc completly

You are not alone, as my unit did the same thing!

To my knowledge a PSU is not supposed to make any noises when PC is off. All of the 15 to 20 I have used in my builds over the years were dead silent when the PC was off.

good to know i am not alone. but the question arise - is it safe to use the pc with this psu ? do you have it still or do you send the pc back to acer or swapped the psu out ?

i just want to have a functional working machine because i got burned 2times already with prebuilts from other local/online sellers here at home (and yeah i had to go prebuilt because of these crazy gpu times and my old budget pc beeing over 12years old and alrady had gifted my old gpu to a friend of mine ...)

I wish I knew for certain. If more people come out and tell that theirs do the same thing, then I think you shouldn't worry too much. But to be on the safe side I'd contact the seller or Acer (maybe with a video?) and ask their opinion. Maybe there's a bad patch of PSUs out there and they already know about it.

I don't have it anymore. After my friend ruined the motherboard I got him a new mobo, case and quality PSU and recycled the ticking [time bomb of a] PSU and the case.

@GotBanned Thanks i really hope some other people with a similar experience share it if they still use there pc with there clicking psu. oh and by the way you got your friend a new mobo- if i decide to swap case/mobo/psu what are your recommendations for my 620 got 2hdd with 2tb per driver 1tb nvme and 4x16gb kingston valueram. i already bought (not arrived jet) ARCTIC Freezer i13 X for the existing mobo but your experience might got my thinking of switching to a new better ariflow case all at once.
edit: oh and do you know how warrenty behaves for parts if i salvage the orion ?

I had to go this route because replacement motherboards weren't widely available, and the one that was, was way too expensive for what it is. Because of the time constraints and what was available, I got him:

MSI B560 Tomahawk WiFi board: USB-C at the back and front, WiFi 6e, three M.2 slots, heavy duty VRM cooling, supports 10th and 11th gen
Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact case: comes with three fans, glass side panel, mesh for air-flow, dust filters
Corsair 650W RM650x PSU: fully modular, 80 Plus Gold

These parts cost 400€ with shipping, but the building experienced, expandability/future proofing, looks, temps and noise levels were well worth it. As an added bonus, he was able to use his old Noctua NH-14D cooler from his 10 year(?) old PC. The new system is whisper quiet and comparing it to the prebuild isn't fair. The dust filters and the side panel are easy to remove for cleaning - his previous PC died a slow and terrible death under years of dust and neglect. RIP.

If you go this route, get the best case you can afford from the start. You'll be using it for years to come and can easily swap internals when upgrading. Oh, and I wouldn't skimp on PSU either. I personally prefer Seasonic over other manufacturers.

If you have a problem with some components I guess you could rebuild your Acer before sending it back?

Here's some info for those who might consider upgrading their PSUs.

Certain Acer desktops use new ATX12VO standard PSUs that are hard to find. Thankfully this is might be changing soon as there is at least one manufacturer making them. Supposedly more and more options will be available in the future.

Just to be clear, I don't suggest anyone with a buzzing PSU to actually get one, but wanted to share this with you guys.

Those do look good, though they don't say whether the ten pin socket brakes down to a six and four like we use.

I bought my acer pred Orion 3000 a couple weeks ago and had the same problem. I took it back to curry’s to see what they thought and they all seemed puzzled and took that one and exchanged another brand new pc
just set it up and it’s doing the same thing.
maybe it’s normal for this pc ?

Well, it might be normal for this PC, but it is definitely not normal that a PSU makes such a noise. To me it sounds like some manufacturing issue.

Maybe someone over here can escalate this with Acer and see what they have to say?

yeah this is my first ever pc always been on console so got really paranoid.
from the research online it shouldnt make this noise i will email acer and see what they say

Acer finally responded saying it would have to be sent to them to be assessed and repaired but Iv already had a replacement pc from curry’s …. Don’t want to send it and wait forever just for them to put a new but the same psu in ? Has anybody found an answer ?

I believe that there's something wrong with the individual components or manufacturing process. As long as the factory keeps pumping out identical products, the results will be the same.

It'd be interesting if some tech site like Gamer's Nexus thoroughly inspected these power supplies. I bet they can pinpoint what's causing the sound and say if it is a problem or not.

Yeah perhaps I could send another message saying that Iv already had a complete pc exchanged would there be a different psu put in before I send it out and wait for who knows how long
Iv been switching the pc off at the switch ( after properly shutting down the pc) would this cause damage to the pc by doing that ?
