Greetings,
I have just purchased the ACER XC-830 desktop pc and noticed it has a hdd cradle.  The unit has a SSD fitted.
There are two SATA data (one has no cable inserted) slots on the motherboard but is there also a slot for a power connection
should I wish to add a second drive?
I am new to this forum and also to ACER computers.

I cannot seem to fins a diagram on the internet for the motherboard for this model pc.
Appreciate any help.
Cheers

Normally speaking people need not to upgrade power supply just for adding a HDD/SSD. I did some internet digging, your PC spec. really indicated 65W, that is kind of low for a desktop. As long as there is an unused power connector, there is still a good chance you can add another SSD that the PSU still can handles. SSD power consumption is kind of low. If there is no special reason ( such as requires high storage capacity disregard of speed), I would suggest adding a SSD instead of "standard", old style mechanical HDD, because SSD is much faster.

Have you found the space where the added SSD can be mounted?

For desktops, you will need one data cable and one power connector to be connected to the drive.
Once you opened up your PC and inspect, you should be able to tell how many still open connectors are there.
Seems like you will need a 8" SATA3 data cable.

Motherboard diagrams are not for public access.

Tks for that info.  I have opened as you suggested and have located a power connector tucked away out of sight under the cradle.  Just not apparent unless you really probe under.  The SATA data connector is in plain sight so no problems finding it.
Only thought at the moment is will the unit have sufficient power to run a standard disk type drive or only a SSD.  I think I saw somewhere the unit has a power rating of 65W.  The installed ssd is mounted directly on the m/board.

    Hi ttttt,
Tks for all that info.  The unit has a cradle for mounting HHH or SSD and is empty as the unit comes.  I have found the power connector, and there is only one and it is not in use, so that is okay.  I do wish to use an existing 1Tb HDD, and as you say, speed is not a worry.  If I can later trim my needs down to a 500Gb SSD, that is what I will do.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Cheers
