acer E5 575T3678 charging/battery issue

the laptop is now completely dead and does not appear to receive power from the AC adapter. previously tried using a wall outlet vs a power strip. this seemed to work for maybe  a week or 2. last message on screen said Critical battery. have had the laptop plugged in to wall outlet for hours and now pressing power button does nothing at all. was going to replace the ac adapter as first solution but unsure if it is the cause of the issue. currently using a LiteON 45 watt 2.4v adapter i believe and the label on the bottom of the laptop seems to indicate a 65 watt 3.42 v.  Any help is appreciated.

The charger's plug output between its outer ring and inner connector should be 19volts DC measured with a multimeter. It sounds like either the adapter's AC plug or its output plug is defective. Jack E/NJ

    Hi Alpaca_Friz,

    # Power drain,

    1.Unplug the AC power adapter.
    2. Shutdown the unit.
    3. Search for a pinhole on the backside of your laptop, insert a small paperclip in the battery reset pinhole, press and hold it down for 25 seconds. Then release the paperclip and try to turn on the unit and check.
Check this T/S and post the result.

after inserting the paperclip and pressing the power button, the Acer splash screen came on but then went to black screen. Not sure if there are power indicator lights which should be visible as this laptop belongs to my daughter.

just as an additional note, i found the indicator lights and the orange light has gone on and off a few times. not blinking or any pattern, but has gone on and off.

noticing now that moving the adapter where it plugs into the laptop causes the orange light to flicker on and off. after moving it around a bit. the orange light is on steady not blinking.
