I'm trying to install Linux on a brand new Aspire 5 laptop, and need to disable RST in BIOS first. That option does not appear in any of my BIOS tabs. Have tried what's been recommended on this channel to get at those settings, (Setting Supervisor Password, Disabling Secure Boot, Pressing CTRL + S in BIOS etc...) Does anyone have any other recommendations?

    Hi,
You should be able to switch to AHCI mode in this model, the option should be available in the Main tab, anyway, if you are unable to do it, give this a try:Ubuntu installation on computers with Intel(R) RST enabled - Documentation - Ubuntu Community Hub

  • check this bios version too:

Hi all, I've tried looking into other forms, including the Linux ones. All roads point back to going into BIOS and either disabling RST or changing it to AHCI, along with whatever other steps (Regedit etc...) were recommended. My issue is, I do not have access to any tabs in my BIOS that allows me to access and change this setting. Any other ideas on how I can get this to work?

Could we grab photos of what it looks like?

As a long shot, When you say brand new is it 11th gen Intel? If so look for VMD controller after control s 🤔 needs to be off

  • Access the bios and then go to the main tab. Then press CTRL + S. The sata mode option should appear.

It has been known to flake out , sometimes you need to reboot from Windows into it using the advanced boot options from the start menu, and sometimes it needs to either be spammed on the main tab or be the first thing you press (I hate how it's not just there, Acer please move it to the advanced tab! )

  • Depending on the language of the keyboard, you must press STRG + S!
