should i bring the notebook back to acer service centre to perform the storage upgrade, to avoid warranty void.

Could you please post the full model name of the laptop, like SF3xx-xx, if you have a warranty warning sticker at the base cover you need to upgrade through Acer Support centre in your country.

SF314-42-R8A9, I am planning to add additional 1tb to the existing 512gb, not sure if have empty slot for nvme ssd

Hi,
You can not install a additional M.2 SSD, you have only a single M.2 slot in which you already have a 512GB SSD, so only option available is to upgrade it to a 1TB SSD.

As @brummyfan2 says, you can swap out the 500GB drive for a 1TB or larger. Doing it yourself may or may not affect the warranty depending on your locale. The warranty is different for different countries... If you have a 'warranty void' sticker over one of the screws then likely it's best to send it in.
