ASPIRE A315-23_A8CM - where are the memory sockets

I have logged an incident [Incident: 210404-000129] with Acer regarding memory size as I went to upgrade from the delivered 4GB to 12GB by adding an 8GB SO-DIMM however I found there was only 1 socket which was occupied by a 4GB SO-DIMM; thus removing the 4GB SO-DIMM and inserting the 8GB SO-DIMM I have ended up with 8GB RAM, not the 12GB specified for this model.

In dialogue with ACER I am told there are 2 DIMM sockets, I've found one, where is the second? I'd be grateful if someone could provide me with details (sketch/image) of where the 2 DIMM sockets are.

I've tried to respond to Acer Support <cc.uk@acer.com> asking for this detail but my emails are rejected with:

Yes, unfortunately, you don't have the onboard memory in your model.

Hi,
You have 4GB onboard memory and a slot for removable RAM, could you please install CPU-z, run it and post the snips of SPD tab and Memory tab, 2 is the onboard memory in my snip.

As requested. So given 4GB onboard and I have added 8GB why do I not have 12GB?

I think your model may not have onboard memory, we can check it by removing the 8GB module and try to boot, if the system doesn't boot without RAM in the slot there's no onboard memory in this laptop, yes I can also see the specs as shown by your second picture in the manual, it could be possible because another memory upgrade site mentions the maximum memory as 8GB.

Okay, I'll get to removing the 8GB module and try a reboot but not tonight. Will report back but I sense a 8GB maximum. If I'd known that I wouldn't have bought it. If it is 8GB it doesn't match with their specification.

8GB memory module removed, no boot possible just power to the hard drive. No sign of any onboard memory and no sign of a second DIMM socket. Concluding that 8GB is the maximum memory, plus a 4GB memory card that was removed and hence now of no use. I will follow up with the retailer and with Acer.
