it was fine yesterday, I was listening to my external speakers. today, speaker won't connect, blue tooth on off toggle missing from settings.

1. I ran through driver install again, did not work
2. I removed driver altogether and system did not attempt to install.
3. I downloaded latest from acer and installed but still it doesn't show up at all (even in device manager with hidden showing view option)

I am a 20 year network engineer veteran and all information points to failed bluetooth adapter. does anyone else have similar with fix?

There is another possibility. Some of the newer updates rolling out from Microsoft can muck around with the low level USB hubs that connect devices like Bluetooth to the rest of the system. When they get confused one symptom is the device fails the descriptor identification process, so you no longer see the device at all. Sometime they show up in Device Manager with an error, sometimes they don't show at all. Typically within a few days or even weeks, MS will roll out another update and it fixes itself, but sometimes it's faster to just reinstall the USB hub drivers.
