I am working and the computer just instantly turns off.  It does this once a day, rarely more, and the time from boot up in the morning to when it does this varies  - most of the time it's in the middle of the day (the pc is on allday) , but today it was in the morning and I lost a fair amounnt of original writing - very frustrating.  Does anyone else experience this and if so what did you do to resolve?  I opened a warranty case with Acer.

    Hi nerd1999,

    # Power drain,

    1)Unplug the AC power adapter.
2)Press and hold the Power button down until the unit goes off.
3)Search for a pinhole on the backside of your laptop, insert a small paperclip in the battery reset pinhole, press and hold it down for 25 seconds. Then release the paperclip and try to turn on the unit and check.

It's possible to get those symptoms if the laptop is overheating, but unusual if you aren't gaming or doing higher end graphics. Run a utility like Core Temp to see what temperatures you are running at, and watch for numbers that get close to 100C. If they're much below that, like 40-80C, then it's not likely the issue.
