My Acer Aspire 5 A515-56 touchpad has stopped responding. How do I fix it?

Open Device Manager. Do you see any red or yellow warnings? If none, click on the HumanInterfaceDevice HID folder. Right click on the touchpad entry and uninstall it. Exit Device Manager without trying to re-install anything. Shutdown Windows normally. Turn the machine back on and let Windows re-detect the touchpad hardware and automatically re-install a fresh copy of the touchpad driver.
