When I booted up this morning, my Aspire R17 would not connect to my my router; didn't even see it. Comcast says all is well at their end and my other computers and phones connect. do I perhaps have a dead network card? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Firstly, what is the exact model number of your Aspire R17 or is it the Aspire R7 as your info is very basic and uninformative? Its a bit hard to reference anything if you don't give us those exact details, as there are so many other models and variations in the Acer spec range for all models!

Usually your problem is due to either driver errors and/or hardware failure, so and for the appropriate advice give us more details of the Aspire R17 (btw there is no such thing as an Aspire R17 standalone model but, it could be an R17 R7-371T etc model?) also, as there are various WiFi/BT card models (see Device Manager > Network  or you might have to open the back to see the mini PCIe card) this example is for an Aspire R7-371T — NX.MQPAA.001 (which has a 4th Gen Intel cpu and an older model) that came with either one of these cards:
    • Broadcom BCM43228+20702 WLAN/Bluetooth Combo Module
    • Atheros NFA222 WLAN/Bluetooth Combo Module
    • Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 7260 2x2 WiFi+Bluetooth
Also, all these cards have new drivers for Win-10 which could be what is your problem? Which firstly the old drivers have to be completely uninstalled through Device Manager or Control Panel and then the latest drivers installed so as to rectify your WiFi/BT problems.

The laptop is an-317T-762R and the network adapter is Intel Dual Band Wireless - AC 7265. I hope that is more informative. When I started it this morning, it saw several of my neighbors' wi-fi routers but not mine. Until today, it worked perfectly for the last several years. All my other devices, which are newer, are able to see the router which is a new Comcast 1gb router. Since my older Aspire sees other networks but not mine, it is my tentative theory that the problem is the router rather than the laptop. Seems to me that , if it were the network card, it would be completely dead and not see anything and drivers have been regularly updated with no previous issues. I hope this sheds some light on the problem.

Ok I understand now, do the following as the drivers need to be completely uninstalled and reinstalled and reboot laptop after each, also and if and after you have rebooted after reinstallation of the new drivers and the WiFi or BT do not activate then press either the F3 key or the Fn+F3 together to activate your WiFi/BT functions do them in the following steps:

    1. Uninstall completely the WiFi and BT drivers of the "Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 7260 2x2 WiFi + Bluetooth"
    2. Then reboot the laptop and reinstall all the latest Win-10 drivers from here for the Intel AC7265 card
    3. If not activated then do as I've instructed above with the F3 and Fn keys or reboot and then press the F3 or the F3_Fn keys together.
    4. If all the above don't work then inspect the WiFi/BT card and take it out and clean its prongs and card and make sure that the antenna (black & white wires) are seated properly on their terminals, as that could be a factor too.

This will reinstate the WiFi/BT with your Comcast 1gb router like it was before.

    Hi,

Did you set any limited connection restriction to you network.

Not that I know of. Additionally, the link at Intel to download the driver is broken. It wants me to download an automatic program to update drivers which, of course, doesn't work because it wants an internet connection.

I declare victory. After finally overcoming Intel's offline Download Center and their statement that they no longer supported the AC7265 Driver, I finally downloaded the AC7265 PRO driver from Intel and, miracle of miracles, it appears to work. Wonders will never cease. Thanks for your help guys. I appreciate it.
