Aspire 5(A515-56) Headset Issues the microphone on my headset will be recognized by the computer

Hi all,

I recently purchased an Aspire 5, everything is working well except for the audio. Whenever I plug in my headset, I get a variety of different issues. For example, at times the microphone on my headset will be recognized by the computer, but the audio volume will be extremely low. This input volume is so low that people in meetings cannot hear me. At other times, my microphone will cause a "static-y", echo-like sound that deafens the other people in the meeting. I cannot hear this, but I've been told by my coworkers about this issue.

These headphones work on my other computer, so I'm assuming its a software issue somewhere. Please let me know if y'all have any advice or places to start!

More than likely it's a poor jack-plug fit issue from your description. The 3.5mm jacks and trrs plugs are not precision manufactured devices. I suggest peering inside the jack to see if the sliders that press against the two plug rings are visible and seem to press hard enough against the rings (the deeper slider is for sliding against right stereo speaker ring, the other for the mic ring). Use a toothpick to try to bend the mic slider so it presses harder against the plug ring, Jack E/NJ

Hmmmm, alright I'll give that a try. Is there any danger of damaging those pieces?

Yes, if you try to bend the jack's slider too much. Then break it off. Before getting too rough fiddling around with a toothpick inside the laptop's jack, I'd probably try another headset and plug to see if it'll fit better. Jack E/NJ

Hi. It seems that I also have the same issue. it's still with acer5, i bought this one last august..other headsets would work fine in my other laptop..but with this one, i am having issues with all the mic that I tried using ...I tried the headset with 3.5mm jack, i would also get the static-y sound during online calls..i tried a headset that uses usb port but i would be getting an audio delay..again, both headsets are working fine using my other laptop..any help on how to fix this is much appreciated..thanks
