Is it installed already or is this pre-install booting off the USB stick? You can do that but its a pain in the rear end.

If its pre installed hover over start linux mint, press tab, then delete the --  and then add the above options . try the no mode set first and if that fails try the longer one turning everything off

    it is already installed.

then how can i interrupt the boot and get to a command prompt?

currently I can't get to a command prompt, the screen just fills with errors

When you start up you should see this:

If not tap down or up when booting, then just e to edit and add options like this

    Then f10 to boot :)

I was able to boot to LM live USB using LM compatibility mode,

so now i would like to try to:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-384  to the already installed LM 20.3 2.5 HDD,
what partition should i install to?  first one (fat 32 EFI), or second one EXT4 (linux file system)

    where is grub located?
    where are the graphics driver
    located?

again, i can't boot Lm on the installed 2.5" drive, but was able to boot to the Lm live USB

see attached pics for boot related info from the boot with the installed HDD

    thanks for your patience  :)

try adding one of noacpi or acpi=off to it

this won't work, i have no way to get to command line or interrupt the boot sequence and errors

    I have tried several times

What do you mean? You add that before the boot sequence, are you unable to even get to the kernel select? If not the install is Foobard as that is rendered in native non accelerated mode. the stack trace is from after the kernel loads and the options need to be added before

That stack trace suggests the nvidia graphics drivers are foobard in the Kernel, given that i would suggest going down the turn everything to 0 and doin acpi=0

given that i would suggest going down the turn everything to 0 and doin acpi=0

    how do i do that?
I get no option on boot, kernal select?  LM options

If i can get to kernal/LM options or command, I can maybe do an graphics driver update?

If your not even getting a kernel select then i would just re install. Also try something with a newer kernel like fedora!

once i install LM again, what update should I do to fix the graphics driver issue

Add the boot options, see if it works. Fixing these is iterative and there isn't a one thing which works for everything. Best option would be to use another distro if it doesn't work

i have reinstalled lm 20.1 same result

    i tried this:  nvidia-drm.modeset=1

If that doesnt work, you may also to delay the initialisation of the modules for it by removing the modeset and doing:
    nvidia-drm.modeset=0 nomodeset nvidia_modeset=0 nouveau.modeset=0 amdgpu=0

    almost boots, but same result

i do get a selection on LM options with recovery mode

    what do you think?

this should not be this difficult
