    1) Acer Care Center Opened and Used As Follows:
    • Ran Updates - all done.
    • Ran Checkups - Results are:  battery good, LAN connected, BUT!! says Intel SSD 238.47 GB Not Supported!! so I can't do a checkup on my SSD!   I have the INTEL  SSDPEKKW256G8 256.0 GB, with firmware 004C, interface NVM Express 1.3, and the features include: S.M.A.R.T., TRIM, VolatileWriteCache
    • Ran Tuneups - Ran software to optimized startups this is now OK, wanted to run disc defrag but it is not available for my SSD (see specs above...again my SSD not supported?).

    2) Crystaldiskinfo loaded and ran.  Results: Health Status: Good 94% and Temperature: 30 degree C.     Results here:

    01 000000000000 Critical Warning

I am wondering if possibly the problem may be caused by (since it only occurs at startup) one of the programs that compete to open up first at startup?  I suspect either MS Onedrive and Intel Delayed Launcher?   OneDrive is listed as "High impact" on startup in Task Manager.

    Further information!

Just a reminder, the blue screen (freeze up) is occurring in 2 instances:

    1) EVERY time I start it up in the morning (either flashing blue is evident and it reboots itself, or I need to do a hard re-boot (turn it off and on with on/off switch).   But after either of these 2 events it always starts-up the 2nd time and runs fine all day (no blue screens)....so actually 2 boots are needed to get it running???

    As well as!!

    2) EVERY time I do a windows 10 update.   When doing so I have to do a hard reset one or two times.   A hard reset is ALWAYS needed after a Windows update.

When you say your PC "Sitting Overnight", do you mean you do that after normal shut down?
Have you tried to put the PC in sleep mode and then wake it up the next day and see what happened?
  • When the problem occurs, are the time and date reset?

When you say your PC "Sitting Overnight", do you mean you do that after normal shut down?      Yes, I turn the computer off every night and turn if back on every morning (I shut it off by going to the windows logo, hit power, & then I hit shut down).

I have never tried putting it to sleep over night.   Per your thoughts I will do so tonight and see what happens.

When turning the computer on in the morning (after it was shut down overnight), the following 2 blue screens happen, in the following order:

1st I see the windows "beautiful photograph" screen (Microsoft screen is visible with a great photograph and the clock is visible).

2nd the computer runs for about 3-4 seconds and a blue screen (BSOD...Blue Screen Of Death) blinks for about a 1/2 second or so (just a fast blue screen view with no print visible)**.

3rd I see the windows beautiful photograph screen again for a 1/2 second or so and then another blue screen appears saying ":( Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart.   We're just collecting some error info and then we'll restart it for you."    (Stopcode: DPC Watchdog Violation)

4th The computer restarts itself (no input from me) and runs normally for the rest of the day with no problems of any kind (no blue screens or errors of any kind) and I shut off the power at the end of the day.

** One time when I saw the first blue screen (at 2nd step) there was a very quick visible blue screen note saying something like Windows OneDrive is loading or trying to load (or something similar to that).

I put the computer in sleep mode for the first time ever last night.   I have not used this function in the past.

When taking it out of sleep mode this morning (just by moving the mouse) the Microsoft beautiful photo came up right away and all looked well.....BUT when I tried to enter my security pin into the computer it went into the blue screen of death mode and restarted itself once.....and now all is working well.....as usual.

So it takes 2 blue screens to start the computer after shutting it down overnight.

And it takes 1 blue screen to start the computer when it has been in the sleep mode overnight.
  • Did this problem occur after updating windows to version 20h2?

It has happened EVERY time I have had a windows update since I bought the computer in Dec of 2018.   When I do an update it always does at least 1 or 2 blue screens (BSOD) but after that it always starts up (resets itself) and runs normally for the rest of the day.
  • I suggest that you try to do a disk cleaning as an administrator!

I would try to repair boot sector using Windows 10 repair disc / USB thumb drive. Assuming you have that repair disc or Win 10 original system disks.

Seemed to me Win 10 always trying to get a previously good booting record after the first bad attempt.

Hi egydiocoelho and ttttt....I've been away from the office for a while.   Thanks for your input.   Will try to implement both of your suggestions in the near future.    Will follow up with you with the results.   Thanks again.

PS - As I have tried at least 15 software fixes at this point I am starting to loose hope!!!   Perhaps the computer itself (hardware and laptop construction) is the real problem?

Am ready to go out and buy another computer...blue screens continue to occur.   Next computer will NOT BE an Acer unfortunately.   Over 15 repairs have been attempted and about 40 hours of work & research trying to repair the unit and no improvement!    Still crashing on startup at least once and usually 2 times...same error every time  (Stopcode: DPC Watchdog Violation)

Every day I think this laptop is going to crash for good and I can't take that risk, losing all my data.

Final thoughts, do you think I should I download any of these update drivers listed for my unit at the Acer downloads section?  They were supposed to be (probably were) downloaded when I ran the Acer Care Center.  But possibly not all of them were downloaded.

If so, which ones do you think might help?

I thought possibly the following one may be helpful but I have (or am supposed to have) SSDs and this update is not apparently for SSDs?:  IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver Hot Fix 16.7.8.1024

Any final thoughts?   I can't be the only person who has this problem?    Perhaps a technical contact (phone # or email) at Acer can advise further?

  • Have you updated the bios to version 1.28? What happens when you change sata mode to ahci? Do it:
    a) activate rst with optane mode again
    b) on windows, press windows + r and type msconfig. go to system boot, enable safe boot and restart windows
    c) then, change the sata mode to ahci no bios.

Don't know if you have the problem resolved? I suppose not. Have you tried to uninstall MS Onedrive and disable Intel Delayed Launcher?

I would think downloading the Wind 10 from MS site (this may be the latest version) and creating  bootable USB or burn bootable DVD disc (with the repair disc ready of course) and doing a clean Win 10 install maybe a possible fix. Or if your PC has that ALT+F10 (may be ALT+Fn+F10 for your PC) when bootup, from the menu go to the Advance section and restore it back to factory condition (older version, of course) or fix boot sector if possible.

You seemed to give up hope on this PC already, try it and see if that will do it.
