I am trying to install
SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 500GB Samsung MZ-V7S500
but it does not recognize it at all, after rebooting or in BIOS.
It seems also to get very high temperature when put in its slot and laptop is on.
any suggestions please???

thanks

  • Have you checked if the ssd appears in the bios information tab? This model must accept nvme: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Acer-Swift-SF514-51/45061

The temperature thing makes me think the drive itself is bad... :( Contact your vendor for a swap to get a good one.

I believe so too...:( since I do not think is a matter of compatibility.

I did ask ventor to make a swap, and tried to install the new one now, but it is still the same result.
    Any other thoughts please?

All the drives Acer ships with the SF514-51 are SATA SSDs, perhaps they don't support NVMe?

Yes, but there is no guaranty that all will... And that could easily be the case here.

    @billsey @egydiocoelho
I asked Samsung about compatibility, and they replied:

"The SSD 970 EVO Plus requires a PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 interface"

So is this compatible with my Laptop (swift 5 SF514-51)?

    Anyone?

    thanks
  • my classmate billsey may be correct. now, does ssd not appear in the bios information tab? I found this information:

@nipro13 @egydiocoelho is showing the same area in the Service Guide that I was looking at, I believe it is the final indication you need an M.2 SATA drive, not an M.2 NVMe.

I even updated BIOS (through acer) but still no luck..

how come that in benchmarks by users "Intel 600p Series NVMe PCIe M.2 512GB" appears compatible??
Is it possible that only above SSD is and my 970 Evo plus is not?

    thanks @billsey @egydiocoelho

Some motherboard revisions can accept nvme and others only sata 3. That's why I asked if ssv nvme is showing up in the bios info tab.
