Hello,
I have an Acer Nitro 5 (AN515 55). I was just wondering if I can manually turn off the fans or keep them quieter in any way. I would like to use it in school, and I don't want to disturb anyone. They aren't that loud, but you can definitely hear them.

The Only way to do this is either to use NBFC - https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/releases ,  mod your BIOS or write a SW capable to set values on the EC (Embedded Controller) - NBFC is such SW. Good luck.

Thank you so much for replying! Sorry, it didn't help. The fans run at about 1800 RPM, this is kind of loud for my class. Does my model already come with thermal paste applied? Also, are there any other ways for making the fans run at absolute 0 RPM? I notice that sometimes when I'm doing simple tasks, the fans turn off. Is there another easy way I can turn them off like this?

Try different configs until it shows the % of both fans and then with the slider you have manual control

Install this - https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/releases/download/1.6.3/NoteBookFanControl.1.6.3.setup.exe  and start it, choose a profile and click to enable, try with the slider if you can control the fans try other config

It downloaded properly, and I chose everything. I chose the slider to be 0% on both fans too. Under
Fan Control Service Status:", it keeps switching from disabled to read-only. The fans are still running too.

I am choosing the config called Acer Aspire VN7-793G V17 Nitro BE. is this the correct one for my exact model? Mine is the AN515 55.

You have tried every single config? Try this one it works for me Acer Predator G3-572

The Acer predator one is not working. I tried changing the read and write register of both fans, but it didn't help. I'm confused about how to use EC Probing tool to see which register I should use.

When I try to click enabled when I have selected the Acer predator config, it switches back to disabled right away.

Run it in CMD as Admin. "ec-probe.exe monitor --clearly" and run a benchmark to see which registers are changing, use a converter like this for example- https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/hex-to-decimal.html to convert from Hex to Dec and then try putting those values in the config. You can play around until you find it and until you are happy.To stop it press control+C.To write a value to a register you can try "ec-probe write 0x13 70", this means to write to register 0x13(Hex)/19(Dec) a value 70 and observe if the fan speed changes. This is an example you can write a value to a register which you found it is changing with the ec probing tool.
