Hi,

Good day!

I will be buying an acer nitro 5 laptop for web development and games. However, I have read somewhere that acer have some issues with Virtualization.

The concern I have with virtualization is that I will be installing VirtualBox and Ubuntu as guest O.S. in it. Do you think I can run VirtualBox?

Thanks.

It should be fine, but which processor type?

In the past i think AMD-V has been off from the factory where intel VT-X has always been on. I would be really supprised though if the Ryzens have had virtualisation turned off as this would be a massive oversight and would be a self-kneecapping!

Awesome! I'll be choosing an intel type of processor.

Thank you for the insight about AMD-V and VT-X. I just knew that today.

Depends on how many CPUs and RAM you allocate to the VMs. I have a Nitro 7 with 6x2 cores and 16 GB of RAM. And i can comfortably run two VMs (2 cores x 2 GB RAM Linux) and (4 cores x 4 RAM Linux) both at the same time. To check for you, i loaded these two VMs on my Nitro 5 and they booted up just fine with no issues.

Thank you for confirming. I'll definitely try the nitro 5.  :)
