Replacement SSD and Clone extisting drive - Swift SF315-41

Hi

I have cloned by SSD to USB SSD. I then removed the existing SSD, and replaced it with the new SSD with the cloned information.

Put the casing back on and booted the laptop. I got the message 'No Bootable Drive Available' So

1) Although the new SSD fitted, it has slightly different connectors see here: https://www.screencast.com/t/7M3p6gc4Sm

Could this be the issue?

2) If the connectors are not the issue, then could it be that the clone didn't work?

Using Macrium Reflect, I cloned my harddrive, see here: https://www.screencast.com/t/sYG4yoeBc

And it completed, so I thought I just need to insert the new SSD and job done!!

is it possible that I have missed something?

3) I have taken the new SSD out and I did try to boot from external SSD but I just couldn't figure out. There doesn't seem to be a 'boot from Drive E' - I seem to the remember that was all that was needed years ago, maybe I am wrong, maybe things have moved forward and there is a process I need to undertake to allow boot from Drive E?

Anyway, just wondering what i might have done wrong

Hi,
Could you please post the full model name of your laptop, like SF3xx-xx, there may be incompatibility of this ADATA XPG drive or you can only use a M.2 SATA SSD in your model, some of our members had problems with ADATA XPG M.2 SSDs due to the heatsink attached.

Which processor does your model have? Some support NVMe 2 lane and some 4 lane. All support M.2 SATA drives. I believe your ADATA is NVMe 4 lane.

Your OEM M.2 storage form factor is a "B & M key" edge connector and you have installed an "M key" edge connector type M.2? Why? You can't mix these two different M.2 key connectors up! That is why you are having problems. Get the correct "B & M key" edge connector type M.2 and then do the same again and then you wont have any problems, simple

My processor is AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.00 GHz

Ok thanks.... another surprise.. Along with 'terribly sorry sir your RAM is solded!!' Next laptop purchase another question to ask... Should have asked when I bought this

I'm afraid Steven is wrong here... The B & M connectors can handle B, M or both B & M. Spec says:

Solid State drive:

M.2 2280 128 / 256 / 512 GB , SATA SSD (SATA 3.0)(Support AMD Ryzen™R3 2200U /2300U , AMD Ryzen™R5 2500U , AMD Ryzen™R7 2700U ).
M.2 2280 256 / 512 GB NVMe SSD, PCIE (AMD Ryzen™R3 2200U /2300U only support PCIE SSD 2 lane(x2),Ryzen™R5 and Ryzen™R7 support up to PCIE SSD 4 lane(x4)).

So you should be good with the four lane drives. Boot up with the original drive and the new drive in the external case. Fire up Disk Management and show us a picture with the partitions on both drives displayed.

Ok so

At the moment the only SSD installed is the original SSD.

I wiped the external drive when it didn't work. just in case the cloning from 'internal SSD to external SSD didn't work and hence the reason the replacement SSD didn't work

All I really want to find out is if my 'ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB M.2 Gaming Solid State Drive (SSD), black' will work as an internal SSD replacement of the current SSD?

If not then I know I need to buy another SSD that will be compatible, and if yes, I then know I either installed it wrongly or I completed the cloning process wrongly.

NOTE: I don't know what 4 lanes means

Yes that what I did, I searched ' M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe 3x2' but only 3x4 seems to appear it is almost like 3x2 is old school made of stone rubbish so no one is selling even on Ebay!

Just to let you know it seems impossible to be able to buy 1TB SSD Gen 3 x 2 - So now thinking of throwing the ACER and buying something that can be expanded.
