Laptop will not wake from sleep while screen is closed - Acer Aspire A317-52

Wondering if there is a solution for this yet, as I have seen other users report the same issue:

My new Aspire A317-52 will not wake from sleep while the screen is closed.  The laptop is primarily used in a desktop setting with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.  I've adjusted all power and USB settings to allow the laptop to operate when closed and for my usb devices to wake the laptop from sleep.  Laptop must be opened to wake from sleep and can then be closed to continue working on external monitor.

As others have said, I would not have purchased this Acer laptop had I known that I would need to open the screen each time I want to wake the laptop from sleep.  I've seen some indication that this is considered by Acer to be a feature and not a bug.  Is anyone aware of any fixes for this issue?

Thanks,

Kevin

So plugged in, you can close the lid and it stays awake. But if you press the power button to put it to sleep, it won't wake up again with the mouse-move or keystroke unless you lift the lid and close it again.

Try turning off fast startup. Shut down Windows normally. Test the lid-closed key-awake again, include tapping the power key. I've found that the  mouse-move, touchpad or touchscreen awake aren't as reliable as the space-key or power-key awake. It varies depending on the mainboard and the Win10 version installed.

Hi JackE, thanks again for the suggestions, but I managed to figure it out.

There's a "Wake on USB while lid closed" option in the "Main" tab of the BIOS that is set to "Disabled" by default.  Changed it to "Enabled" and problem solved.

Open Control Panel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in left pane. Please post screenshot of result if possible. Jack E/NJ

Hi JackE, thanks for your response.  My laptop is plugged in.  As I said, I'm able to close the lid and continue to work on my external monitor, I just need to open the lid every time I want to wake the laptop.

Did you mean to say this? If you close the lid and continue to work on the monitor, then by definition the laptop is already awake or you wouldn't be able to work on the external montior. Jack E/NJ

Yes, I did.  I said that in order to reiterate that the issue is not the result of my "When I close the lid" setting.  If this was not the setting you were interested in, apologies, as my response is then irrelevant.

As stated in my original post, the issue occurs when the laptop is in sleep mode.  With the lid open, I can wake the laptop from sleep mode with my USB mouse and keyboard.  With the lid closed, I cannot.
