I have the same problem when connecting a laptop. @urbanspaceman is there an overscan option in any of the software for the videocard?
I myself am running only 2560 by 1080 off my work laptop. I was hoping to work on some documents with my ultrawide. I am only using 75% of the screen maybe. I can stretch it side to side but not top to bottom.

You have 4 aspect ratio options in the monitors menu but none stretches it corner to corner!

You should be running it at 3440x1440, right? Less than that will not fill the screen...
