replace power cable/jack R5-471T?

The power plug on my adapter is loose in the power jack. This is resulting in intermittent laptop charging. I hear beeps when the power plug is not seated properly. I'm forever pushing and reseating the power plug. I was thinking that replacing the cable and jack using the part ending in .005 might solve the problem. I'm experienced replacing modular parts in laptops, like drives or memory modules, but I stop at soldering or related tasks that require modifying the system board My questions are: do you think that replacing the cable and jack is the right solution, or is there a different one to consider? If it is the correct one, can the replacement be done by someone like me using normal computer tools and without soldering, or should it go to the shop?

Your laptop uses a cable that runs between the DC-In jack and the motherboard, so it's replacement should be fairly easy. Acer's part number for the cable is: 50.G7TN5.005. Verify while it's open that none of the plastic around the mount is broken and use something like epoxy to repair if it is.

Thanks Billsey, One question begets another, and I would like to ask the question a different way. My aim is to stabilize the jack. What is the best way to do that? Many thanks in advance for the additional light shedding!

You are going to want to look closely at the design of the case where the jack fits. To make it more stable will require building up more material around the jack. I think I'd try doing that by first wrapping the jack in some Teflon tape, the adding epoxy around it to get the extra volume filled up. Try not to put so much in that you can't take the jack back out if needed, but use enough to hold it tighter... I know, that's going to be a pain.
