Aspire R14 (R3-471T-35G3) No Display

Good day.

I have another problem. My laptop was working fine at 6 AM. I shut it down and I got back to work at 3:30 PM. However, upon pressing the power button, the whole screen flashed white really quickly then went black. I'm not sure if the white flash was from the backlight or the display itself. Now, there's no display. I just had it hooked to the TV the whole day. I tried to point a flashlight directly to the screen but there was nothing and thought that it is not a problem with the backlight itself. The touchscreen, however, is working and the touch appears on my TV screen.

Prior to this (happening for months already), when the laptop is off and connected to power, there is some sort of "light leak" on the lower right corner of the screen. When I remove the charger, it goes away. There are also times even without the charger, there's a smaller "light leak". Now, after the white flash incident, it no longer happens.

It looks like the back light is bonded in the display, so not separately replaceable. The Acer part number for the display is: 6M.MP5N7.001

EDIT: On a second check, the display is working. However, there is NO backlight. I have pointed the flashlight again and saw dark images (due to the lack of backlight). How can I fix this?

I see. The prices online are around US$200 which is almost half the cost of this laptop. I also have to replace the battery because it is already bloated. Could you help me confirm that it is really that expensive? Otherwise, I'll just get a new laptop. This unit is getting old, anyway.

That number sound about right. There a fair amount of cost associated with keeping something like a display in the channel, and it's likely one of the highest cost pieces of the bill of materials when building the laptop in the first place. You might try the secondary market, like eBay for a used one.

I think I'll just have a new unit. There's a lot to replace in my current laptop - screen, battery, and speakers. I'm considering a Nitro 5 2020 model. Thanks for your help!
