Red Screen - Can't log into computer

Help! I was playing a game, it froze, and forced a shutdown of pressing the power button. Upon rebooting, It came up to a red screen i hadn't seen before - it showed the time of day. I clicked Enter to put in my password to get into the laptop and nothing happened but another red screen. This time on the screen was a larger internet icon as well as a pulldown menu button which didn't make sense, and the power icon. Nothing i could do would allow me to enter my password and get in. I went into BIOS and clicked F9 and saved/exited. Nothing i do has gotten me anything other than this red screen. Anyone else have this problem, or have other BIOS ideas? I don't think my HD died right - because i can see the time-of-day screen and the on-screen power button (which doesn't work when i try it).

Update. We tried Alt+F10 and got into that screen. No troubleshooting worked at all. System restore didn't work. We tried and it gave us this error: 0x80071a91. Nothing in the Alt+F10 menu worked in any way. Wiping everything and re-installing Windows didn't work. Very strange. Calling Geek Squad.
