Hi I have a aspire 3 and when I turn it on it says no bootable device
this happened yesterday
I was wondering if I could fix this
What I have tried:
unplugging the hard drive and plugging it back in
Changing the boot mode to legacy

I dont think it will boot in legacy. In the UEFI does it show any drives in the boot page? And is there an option for something like secure boot (it will need to be on)?

BIOS must be in UEFI mode. The HDD should also be shown in both the BIOS Information and Boot tabs. Turn the machine off by pressing and holding the power button. Remove the charger. Then insert a paperclip into the battery reset pinhole on the bottom for 30 seconds. Then plug the charge back in. Wait for the battery charge LED to turn from steady orange to steady blue. Then try to turn the machine on again. Jack E/NJ

    Looking at this:
    https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/PDFs/A1/NX.H38EK.006_UserManual1.PDF?v=1
    (page 13, thing number 4)

It should be bottom right, next to a removable thing with vents on it :)

The battery reset worked and I had to wait for it to charge, but it still seems to still say no  bootable device. The bios settings are at default

Yes, but does the BIOS menu show the HDD in both the Information and Boot tabs? Jack E/NJ

I forgot it doesn’t show the hdd model name on information, and on the boot tab.

The hard drive does run though.

If the HDD name and serial number doesn't show up in the BIOS INFORMATION tab, then it is not connected properly or has failed. What is your full Aspire 3 model number? For example, A315-55g???? Jack E/NJ

There should be either a Seagate or WD 1TB HDD installed. It should be described as HDD0 with its serial number in the BIOS Information tab. What do you see in the BIOS Information tab? BIOS absolutely must be in UEFI mode only. Jack E/NJ

I do see the serial number.

Please post a phone photo of what you're looking at if possible? You're probably looking at the laptop's serial number near the bottom of the screen, not the HDD0 serial number near the top of the screen. Jack E/NJ

Better try to re-seat the HDD connector to the mainboard a few times to make sure it's well connected. Then see if it appears in the BIOS INFORMATION tab. If it doesn't, then it has either failed or there is a problem with the motherboard. Jack E/NJ

I’m not sure if it’s the connector because the hdd is on when I turn the laptop on.

The laptop was in sleep mode when this happened, and when I just turn it on the hdd makes a little noise then stays normal.
