My ES1-524 doesn't boot from USB to install windows 10 or factory restore

Hello,
I have bought an SSD to improve the performance of my laptop and I have created the installation USB with the Windows 10 media creation tool. I have also created a recovery USB with the Acer eRecovery Management tool.
When I try to boot with either USB, neither one of them starts.
I have the latest BIOS, 1.07, and I have prepared the boot by putting the USB first. In addition, I have activated the F12 to choose the order and they appear correctly as bootable USB.
Sometimes it seems that it is going to start up but I get a screen with a mixture of colors, where I can see the ACER logo that appears at startup.
Can you help me to find a solution, please?

(1) Does the new SSD show up in the BIOS INFORMATION tab?

(2) when you reconnect old HDD, does the USB installation pendrive boot OK?

thanks for your contributions!
1) yes, the SSD si detected and its serial number is shown in the BIOS
2) I’ve tried booting from the USB with the old HD connected and it does not work, and alfer a blink of the Acer logo the laptop starts up with the windows installed in the HD.

Set and save a BIOS supervisor password. Then re-enter the BIOS with the password to disable secure boot. The save and exit the BIOS. Press and hold the power to turn the machine off. Then insert the installation stick, Turn the machine back on and immediately press the F12 key again to select the boot stick. Jack E/NJ

I've just tried booting following the steps that suggested, setting a supervisor password and deactivating secure boot, and it shows the Acer logo and then the screen goes black and show the logo again... and black again... and never starts.

I've also created another USB with Windows 10 installation, creating first the ISO with the Windows Media Creation Tool and then doing it bootable with Rufus tool, and if I try to boot with it (UEFI and secure boot, with non-secure it does nothing) it shows a multicolor screen (see attached picture). It also happens sometimes with the USB created directly with the Windows Media Creation Tool.

The generic Win10 iso may not be recognizing you video adapter for some reason. Can you still boot Windows OK from the old HDD? If so, there might be a better way of doing this. Jack E/NJ

The Windows 10 installed in the ols HDD works, but I want to move to a SSD because it goes very slow.

It is strange that the recovery media that I've also created in the old Windows 10 installation does not work.

What do you mean with a better way with the old HDD?

Clone/migrate the HDD onto the SSD with a 2.5" USB-to-SSD adapter. Less than $10 with free shipping. This way you get all the ACER specific drivers & system files without relying on the generic Win10 iso. Plenty of really good disk cloning/migrating freeware do the job. AOMEI BackerUpper, MacriumReflect. etc. Jack E/NJ

I’ve just ordered a CD to HDD adapter to clone the old HDD to the SSD.
Thanks for those SW, because I found some trial that give me less confidence, I’m going to try and let you know the result.

Another idea is to create a DVD boolable with Windows 10, but last version is too large for a regular DVD and I’m not sure if my DVD+R can burn a doble layer DVD...
But if the problem is related to monitor driver I think I will have the same problem...
what do you think?

Forget the DVD. Get the USB(not CD)-to-HDD/SSD adapter cable for the 2.5" internal drives and clone the drive. Click on this link. for the adapter. Jack E/NJ

I've tried AOMEI Backupper and the clone function only is not included in the free version.

I'm cloning the disk with MacriumReflect, but is a bit tricky because the application tries to copy exaclty the partitions as is, and in my case the old disk is larger than the SSD, and although the used space in the c: particion fits in the new one, I had to specify the size of c: in the new disk because the application shows an error about the size of original disk versus the new one.

By the way, the height of the CD slot in this ACER laptop is not standard, so the CD-HDD adapter that I bought does not fit, so I have to remove the metalic part and open the laptop completly to install it. I have got an Asus laptop and I did this some years ago and the size of the adapter was perfect because the CD slot is standard...

You could've pre-shrunk the C : \ partition on the HDD using Control Panel disk manager. The options in cloning/migration freeware changes often usually with less options. If you can download earlier versions, you're better off. I suggest you google 'cloning freeware' for other suggestions. As for the caddy, I hadn't realized that you were trying to also put the HDD inside. I suggest that you only use the caddy's connectors to the mainboard, none of its mounting hardware as laptops are crowded enough inside. It's better to stabilize & protect the HDD inside the laptop case with antistatic foam. Jack E/NJ

Hi Jack,
I’ve got the SSD working with the clone and I’ve just reinstalled a clean Windows 10 with the restore partition, and now the laptop works better than when it was new.

Now I have a weird poltergeist: I have the old HDD connected with the CD-to-HDD adapter, the SSD in the main slot and in BIOS the first is Windows Boot Manager, the SSD in second place, and the old HDD doesn’t appear in the list. If I leave the laptop booting by itself... it select the old HDD and start that windows!. If I press F12 I can see both disks and I can select the SSD to start.
I think that the Windows Boot Manager goes to the old HDD for some extrange reason, so I’m to format the old HDD now that I’m sure that the SSD works fine.

Disconnect the old HDD and make absolutely sure the SSD boots OK before you tinker with anything to the old HDD. Jack E/NJ

I did not need to format the old HDD, after restoring the Windows installation in the SSD, now it is being used for starting with no need to press F12, so the poltergeist has generado.
