Hi, my helios currently sports a single channel 8gb ram from Micron tech clocked at 3200mhz. I do believe it runs on 2933mhz due to the limitation of the CPU. So I have wanted it to be 16gb for the upgrade but do i need to pair it with a 8gb stick with 2933mhz or 8gb stick with 3200mhz for it to run on dual channel?

Yes, match the DDR4-3200MHz then you will get 'Dual Channel" with the same timing and if you can, the same manufacturer, because and if you put 1x DDR4-2666MHz the DDR4-3200MHz RAM stick will run at 2666MHz and not at 2933MHz or "Dual Channel". To enable dual channel mode, it is necessary to use 2 (identical) RAM sticks in the A1 and A2 slots.

Thanks for the clarification Steven, so that leave me to 2 choices and I want your opinion on it:
Either I purchase another 8gb 3200mhz stick that is not from the same manufacturer but same capacity and speed since it is hard to find the identical ram in my country or just purchase 2x8gb 2933mhz identical stick instead?
  • Yes, that is correct, as all ram to run in dual channel and at 3200MHz have to be the same like mine is that is running 2x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz and this is my Task Manager:
