Why is my Predator G3-571 not booting from cloned wd_black ssd

Hi everyone!

I'm in the process of upgrading my old ssd to a nvme m.2 wd_black ssd.

Here are the steps I've taken:

1.connected wd_black ssd to a usb-nvme m.2 adapter

2. connected (1) to usb port on laptop

3.used aoiem backupper to clone disk.

4. disconnected (2) and installed it in motherboard

5. went into bios and the only thing that showed up under boot options was '1. windows boot manager'

I tried Macrium reflect but kept running into 'data cyclic redundancy' errors.

I've never done this before and am wanting to determine what went wrong and how to fix it. Any advice would be awesome and steps too.

I have use macrium before and it worked flawless for me. List out the steps you did, prefer with screenshots if possible, and I can try to help see if there anything different from what you did against what i do.

Cloning a boot drive (that is if you have cloned your OS properly onto the new drive?) then your new drive should boot properly and perfectly, you must have done something wrong? Check the process that you have followed and also (as sri369 said) use the FREE Macrium Reflect V7 cloning and backup software, as that is the simplest and best for cloning and backing up your system if you need a recovery? Also and after you have installed your new nvme m.2 wd_black ssd implement "TRIM" (which is an ATA command set that was originally designed for the purpose of keeping a Solid State Drive at its optimal performance throughout its lifespan) within Win-10, do that through cmd prompt as an administrator.

I actually did something different and used AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro (yes, I know. I bought it...)

This time, Windows recognized the new ssd after I installed it directly into laptop. However, it had trouble booting normally so I went into safe mode.

Then, I just restarted the pc and it booted normally. Not sure if I got lucky or what, but I'm very pleased with the end result.

Hopefully, it holds out...

Great, as long as it works

and everything is sorted. but, in future get a Samsung SSD as they have their very easy cloning software that is called "Data Migration" and "Tuning Software called "Magician" and you won't go through these hassles, plus Samsung SSD's are far better than WD's. well that is my opinion only

I love Samsung and their SSDs will certainly go in my future rigs when I can splurge $$.

WD had a huge sale and I missed out on Samsung's sale. So, it is what it is.
