My new monitor doesn't work but apparently it isn't broken?! - acer monitor help

I have a new larger acer monitor to replace my smaller, working acer monitor. Same portals, I switch them over, the new one shows the 'acer' logo in green on the screen so it clearly isn't dead. It then says the name of my pc - so it is clearly linked and recognising that but then NOTHING just a blank screen. I have contacted Acer and it has been returned TWICE. The first time they said they replaced a part, it came back and same problem.  I contacted them again - they sent me another label and I returned it again. It came back to me today and the same problem. I think they just plug it in, see the word ACER then assume it's working. Could it be me? - am I missing something? I can't get through to a real person so I don't know. Three months now and I still have not got my new monitor to work. This is totally doing my head in.

What computer do you have? What connection are you using between the computer and monitor?

Cable connector which is the same as I used on my old Acer monitor. Same connection and cable, same everything I just switched to a newer Acer monitor.

It is VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP? Does the cable change from one to another? On your computer are you plugged into a port on the motherboard or into a port on the GPU? If you boot the computer into safe mode, then connect the monitor does it work?
