HI. I hope someone can help me. Today I plugged my external battery to my Aspire 1 laptop (with an old cable). I would assume a short circuit happened since both computer and external power bank stoped working (no smoke btw). From then on my laptop doesn't work. If I push the ON button the light signaling the computer is on actually turns on but the screen never goes on. What is more funny is that ... If I plug the charger a loud beep comes out. Only one loud beep. Also, the little light of the charger is orange ... Help. What does this single beep mean ?

The beep is normal when a charger is plugged in. Try turning the screen on with the FN+F6 toggle key combination. Jack E/NJ

Hi JackE, thanks for your reply. But :( unfortunately this didn't work. And, this is the first time I ever hear the computer beep when I put the charger in. It never did that before. And it's a big loud beep. I read that these beeps are codes that signal something is wrong right ? What does one beep mean ?

     >>> this is the first time I ever hear the computer beep when I put the charger in>>>

When the laptop is already turned on, there should be one beep when the charger is either plugged in or unplugged or AC power is lost. When the laptop is turned off, there should be no beep.  Are you saying the laptop beeps even when it's turned off? If yes, the laptop is really not turned off. It may be stuck in sleep mode. Hi and thanks for your new reply.

My computer just came back from the technician. Apparently the motherboard was burned !! Terrible news for me. But the worst part is that now the information is almost impossible to extract because the motherboard and hard drive are soldered together ! (It's a really cheap pc). He told me he had no expertise on doing this. So this case is lost. I have 3 years of work stuck there. Does any one know what to do ?

What size was the drive? 32GB or  64GB or larger? Jack E/NJ

Yes but the emmc chip will probably have to be de-soldered from the mainboard and plugged into an emmc chip reader. Some phone and android tablet repair shops might have this capability since the emmc type of storage is used in those devices. Jack E/NJ
