I got this laptop barely over a year ago (so obv out of warranty barely) and its hardly been used in that time. Last night the screen just went black. It powers on and off and keyboard is lit up but no sound or anything on the screen. Tried restarting, tried to reboot, tried resetting battery, hitting f12, using external monitor(nothing) etc etc and no luck. This is most expensive laptop Ive ever bought and pretty sad when i hardly use it that this happens. I do music production and have tons of stuff on there so I dont wanna lose anything and I cant afford a new one, so any suggestions or help would be awesome. Thank you.

It might help if you could reveal the full ACER model number. For example A515-51g??? Or perhaps E5-576G??? Or ES1-411? Acer produces hundreds of different laptop models. Jack E/NJ

Try to turn the screen on with the FN+F6 toggle key combo. If no joy, try to HDMI out to a TV screen with the FN+F5 combo. Jack E/NJ

Press and hold power button till the laptop shuts off. About 5 seconds. Unplug charger. Re-do the paperclip battery reset pinhole for about 60 seconds while pressing and holding the power button at the same time. Plug the charger back in. Wait till the battery charge LED turns from steady orange to steady blue. Then try it again. Jack E/NJ

Unplug the charger. Remove 3 screws from the HDD/SSD door and lift it off. You should have two RAM sockets. Remove RAM module E. Put the cover and screws back on. Plug the charger in. Try to turn the machine on again. Jack E/NJ

Tried the battery thing a couple more times. Tried to hook to external monitor. Nothing. Took the Ram in and out a couple times, both those sticks. Nothing. What next?  Thank you for your help by the way. I appreciate it. Hopefully we can get there

Now disconnect the HDD and anything else you might have attached to any of the external ports. Try it again. Can you even hear any BIOS beep code errors? Jack E/NJ

Unattached it. No sounds at all. No beeps. No fans.  No nothing. Both lights come on on front and the keyboard is lit. Thats only sign of life

First remove the DVD drive screw and pull drive the DVD drive out. Then remove 17 screws from the bottom cover and pry it apart from the top assembly. Disconnect the battery pack from the mainboard. Replace the bottom cover and 17 screws. Replace the HDD and RAM modules and replace the door and 3 screws. Don't bother reconnecting the DVD at this point. Plug the charger back in. Try to start the machine without the battery pack. Jack E/NJ

One of the screws wont come out. Its tough to open and I dont wanna ruin anything. Any tips on pulling it open? And where is the battery pack?  Im not much of a computer person.

The screw must come out. Don't try to pry it apart with the screw still in place or you'll crack the base cover or nut embedded in the top assembly. I doubt you can reach to disconnect the battery connector to the mainboard without taking the back cover off. If your uncomfortable doing this, I strongly suggest you take it to a local shop with a good rep like Nate's or OneStop and let them have a go at it and give you a repair estimate. Jack E/NJ

Ok. It took a thousand years to get the screw out. Had to tear up some plastic n rip it out. Took battery pack out n closed it back up. Plugged it in and it flashed something on screen for 1 second but was all jacked up. Was nothing like a boot up screen or anything just jumbled colors. It was maybe even less than a second. Now what?

This comes up for a second. Sometimes a tad longer than blacks back out. First sign of life though.

Did the battery charge LED ever turn steady blue? Jack E/NJ
