TC-281 Can I connect the cable that was connected to my optical drive to the Samsung 860 EVO SSD?
Hi. I have an Acer Aspire TC-281 Desktop with an AMD A10-9700, 8 GB DDR4 RAM, and a 1 TB HDD. I am trying to buy the Samsung 860 EVO SSD. My desktop does not have more than two slots for extra storage, so I removed my optical drive (which I never used) and kept my 1 TB HDD. I want to install the SSD where my optical drive was, but the optical drive left behind only one cable. On the HDD, I see two cables; the SATA and the power cable. With my optical drive, there is only one cable.
However, this one cable has the SATA with it and also an adjacent port next to the SATA (or so I think). This cable is connected to a splitter, which HAS the power cable connected to it. So, I think that this cable may have the SATA and power in it, but when I checked my HDD, I saw that a port for both the SATA and the power would need to be much bigger.
Now, I am very confused. The SSD needs power, but my cable is attached to a splitter with the power cable, kind of like a 2 in 1. Can I buy this SSD and use this cable with it?
