Love my Predator   EXCEPT it WHINES,  a high pitched Whine seemingly coming from fans, fan area or video card.    It Always whines .  I'm not a gamer , I spend alot of time working on the computer.  If I'm not playing music on a nice stereo, i'm working and battling the Whine.  I appreciate excellent sound quality and this Whine simply does not belong in this house and Please No - Not coming from my prized laptop.   Help  ----    can I modify it? Must I buy noise canceling headphones?    Acer Knew these things Whine , they had to.   Suggestions greatly appreciated  .

Hi, I so agree. When using the cmputer (Predator PT315-51 Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)) a jet engine like fan speed should not be needed. Here follows what I have experienced and what I did to some degree of success to control that whine / whooshing sound.
    • Even with normal use (Excel,Word etc) I noticed the fan speed would increase and eventuually become too noisy.
    • Keeping an eye on the fan speeds and CPU / GPU temperature and loads there would be a increase in tempreature to go along with the increase in fan speed - BUT...
    • When I stopped using the computer the fan stays high and I believe even after CPU and temperature decreased
    What I have tried:
    • Most successful was to reduce the CPU usage through the Win10 Power Options. I have reduced the maximum CPU to below 70% and even as low as 50% although I dont think it makes much difference below 70 or 60%. This at least had the result that my fan speeds during normal workin stay at a level that I can tolerate. Even with the lower CPU I have not realised a change in performance that affects normal computer / laptop work.
    • I think that the fan management software increases the fan speed when temperature increases but does not do a good job when it decreases. Yes I ahve seen the fan speed drop after playing MSFS2020 from the very high speed it runs at durng the game but it is still higher than what the fan speed was as an example when I switch on the computer.
    • So I think I found a way for the fan speed management to do a type of reset. If you switch the Cool Boost feature on and then off (no need to wait) then the fan speeds drop and there is a sudden peaceful environment. Of course if the temperature is still too high then the fan speeds climb again
    My request:
    • Does anyone know of a Quick Access to Cool boost just to make the reset process easier
    • Has anyone else had this problem where the fan speeds increase and never really get back to a acceptable working speed
